I don’t see how I can stay on track today but to be fair I didn’t plan for a good breakfast. That was dumb. I need to do better tomorrow.

Hey OP, how's it going???
You can do this. Just one day at a time. One meal at a time!! Be mindful. Give yourself grace! You are doing the best you can.

I was thinking of you too OP. Long days away from home can be tough!

I think I did pretty well today. Two Samoas and 2 Hersey kisses but essentially no other sugar and very little snacking. I’m especially proud I didn’t snack much in the evening. Will keep trying!

Great job last night! I find that the combination of protein, fat and a little sugar in hot chocolate calm just about all of my cravings. I make a mug with about 7 g of added sugar and it tastes plenty sweet to me. I struggle with cravings as well and for me I just can’t have the stuff in the house. I either throw it away or make my husband hide it.

Ways to stop yourself from eating junk in this order

Distract yourself with a walk or a hobby or a task.
Eat something else healthy like an apple or some nuts.
Eat a small amount of what you crave.

Can you figure out how many grams you have left in the day and eat cookies or candy to 24 g? That’s what I would do if I really craved it.

OP checking in. Did not stop at gas station. Did not have any sugar at dinner. Had a few chocolate chips after lunch. Well under goal for the day. Tomorrow will be hard. They always bring doughnuts in and they are really good.

Just eat a piece of candy.

I will be buying sugar free pudding mix to put in my yogurt. I'm a little nervous about "sugar free" items. Does anyone know if it makes you crave more sweet or is it just what you need to stay on track?

I don’t generally like “sugar free” things that use artificial sweeteners because I don’t like the taste. If I want something sweet, I want it to taste good. My big takeaway from this thread is that some sugar is worth it to me (a homemade baked good, really great chocolate) but a lot isn’t (the random sugar in salad dressing). That’s just me though - some people really like the sugar free stuff.

Lesson #1. Throw out the candy. I give you permission.

OP. Forgot to check in yesterday. No issues with
my goal. Think I came in around 22g. Today I make my work trip. I really get tempted to stop and get candy at the gas station. Send me strength! The candy is not that good and it’s gone so fast.

Sounds like many of you have experienced some of the same benefits I have. I feel better with less sugar. I crave less sugar. I don’t get headaches. Learning how much is in common foods is a wake up call.

None yet today.

The less sugar I eat, the less I actually want. I tried some coleslaw of my mom's yesterday and I would have spit it out if I could - way too sweet! I was happier with the fried fish and french fries (I know, those items have their own issues, but it's what my mom wanted for dinner.)

I did get chocolates for Valentines Day. But I'm eating one a day.
I also got some candy hearts, but I'm not eating those. What to do with them??? I could throw them out and my DH would never know, but I'd feel bad.

In the relatively short time I have been more mindful about sugar, I definitely feel a difference. Had more of it last two days (made cookies). I can definitely feel a difference having had more of it. Really enjoyed the cookies, but back to less sugar tomorrow as I felt better.

Good morning, all! OP, I had a low sugar win: made a delicious batch of oatmeal raisin cookies and reduced the sugar so that each large cookie only has 8 grams of added sugar. I’ve eaten… more than one… already this morning, but will get in a workout soon and most days, sticking to one will feel satisfying, I think.

The biggest changes for me since joining this thread have been less added sugar around breakfast and also at lunch. I realized that the bagged salads I love have so much added sugar in the dressing! Made my own dressing and don’t even miss it. I’ll always love a homemade baked good, but changes like that feel easy and sustainable. Woo!
