The Shards. All about high school, so detailed about stuff in the early 80s. It almost felt embarrassing that he can remember so well. I guess a plot happens, but nothing much was happening except driving around in cars listening to songs I also remember from the era. I don’t care that much.

About to give up on Again and Again. Just feels like a gimmick to tell half baked unrelated short stories & while I’m mildly curious what the point of the whole thing is, I definitely don’t need to know & would be happy to skip over whole chapters.

Pachinko is not that bad when compared to Demon Copperhead.

I've read two of Lucy Foley's books but not that one. They were both pretty bad, so if you didn't like The Paris Apartment I'd say just steer clear of her altogether.

DP but did you try the audiobooks? I feel like I wouldn’t enjoy reading her books either, but as audiobooks they really work for me. I listen to them when I do boring chores around my house. Paris apartment wasn’t my favorite, but I liked guest list and hunting party quite a bit (all as audiobooks)

Ugh I've been on a celebrity memoir kick and decided to try Greenlights - the audiobook version.

I tried two chapters and found it completely intolerable.

The Britney memoir was really good - horrifying, didn't feel totally self-aware, but really good.

And the one that I never hear people talk about but I loved - Molly Shannon's! LOVED it.

Agreed! I felt the same about her book about that wedding on an island, but then I went ahead and read The Paris Apartment anyway. No more books by Lucy Foley for me. She builds in too many coincidences and it takes me right out of the plot.

A lot of books lately. Most recently Ann Patchett’s newest Tom Lake. Not nearly as good as her older books. It was a 2 week rental from the library and I had to return it. I probably would have pushed through otherwise.

I came back to say that at first reading, I DNF the Trust. But after hearing that it gets better in the second half and that it’s a story within a story. So glad that I checked it out again. Because it’s one of the better books I read this year.

Books I finished only because I skipped around a bunch: all the things he never told me, demon cooperações, and pineapple street.
Recently dnf: the anniversary
