Massachusetts elected a state house leader this way, where the vote split was like 49-43 and the losing guy got the votes of 8 Republicans to steal the leadership. He is most well known for blocking a new stadium for the Patriots, even as Kraft was signing a deal to move to Hartford or New Haven or something.
