Ground as over 90% of abortions could still go ahead I. States where abortion is still legal and onus would be on democrats to argue why abortions after 15 weeks should be allowed. Public opinion only supports early abortions before 15-16 weeks.

I listened to that in the car. The radio guest's opinion is that the only reason the right doesn't endorse Graham's plan is that they've lost so much positive coverage this summer over extreme abortion bans that they don't want to talk about it again before the midterms, even on the topic of what many see as a more "reasonable" abortion ban. I feel no one is talking about the important thing, which is protections for women and providers past 15 weeks, regarding medically-necessary abortions. A distraught mother does not need to jump through tons of hoops to get an abortion that would save her life or prevent further complications.

Are you busted or something? Seriously WTF is wrong with you people? You’re not even arguing in good faith anymore, and NPR is tipping its hand as just another outlet both sidesing America in the dustbin of history.

I think PP is listening to a broadcast of The Daily, which had a reporter on explaining this thing. (I listened to it after PP mentioned that's what it was about today.) They said Graham was thinking that this is how his bill would be taken, but it's massively backfired.

+1 All anyone is going to hear is “Republicans want a national ban on abortion” after hearing them talk about Dobbs putting the issue back with the states for months.

If this bill ever passed, states with more permissive abortion access would sue. Now, I think could win, but then it would foreclose democrats from creating a federal law enshrining abortion access in every state.

Again. That is why this issue should not be left to legislatures without requiring them to show compelling state interests for whatever abortion restrictions they want to pass. That was the status quo under Roe. That’s what we need to go back to.

So, wait for it… expand the court!

THIS IS NOT WHAT THE BILL IS PROPOSING; THIS IS NOT TRYING TO RECAPTURE THE MIDDLE.

Umm good job missing the point. Obviously i and most others thought he was nuts proposing this legislation. I could not understand the rationale when so many republicans are doing way worse than expected after the Supreme Court overturned row versus wade.

But Lindsay has not been a senator for this long for nothing. It is a cyclical calculation that may pay off for the republicans …

I don't think so. I think it's a total WTF from him. It's going to help Democrats.

Or maybe he just knows this will spur morons to the polls in his state to vote to have their health care rights stripped from them. (I am from the south, so I know of what I speak.)

They have been out and proud about this. Do not believe them. Understand where the GOP wants to take our country and vote accordingly.

As an old dude he doesn’t care about it.
Sure get rid of it! The little ladies don’t matter!
The misogyny on the right doesn’t even see itself.

You see, he was strictly speaking hypothetically, you know, explaining what is possible, not what he would actually do.

/s

He was directly asked if he could take up banning plan B "If he wins and all" and he said "I think so..I would have to check....". It is right there on the tape.
