Battlefield will get their usual cakewalk to states. Outside this 6A seems up for grabs. In 5A Riverside’s best days are behind them. In 4A Dominion has one year left before their program drops off.
Where will the two Yorktown players be?
The rumor is some of their best players are sticking to their #1 sport which is not lacrosse.
Anonymous wrote:Saw the Langley vs Holton Arms scrimmage. Granted just a scrimmage, but Holton dominated all around the field, much much better coached, disciplined and can execute. I said it in an earlier thread, Langley is quickly on the downfall as their players looked lost, can't pass and catch the ball, they actually looked scared to drive to goal, minus one or two of them. The question is, where did all their coaches go? There was only the HC on the sideline, and a goalie coach who is sub par. Looks like the HC Burke ran everyone off, which seems to be consistant of her track record.
I understand it was a scrimmage and teams will hopefully get better, but c'mon Coach Burke, step it up and actually coach your players as they looked completely lost. Can't remember who, but someone said it last year that she completely destroyed that program, and it looks to be true.
Any other scrimmages out there.

More like a disguise of a Battlefield fan coming here to post when they win.
Anonymous wrote:The oak ton vs independence scrimmage was only half a game but looked pretty evenly matched. Independence had some reallly ft players, so I would say watch out for them. Oakton looked prett good at times, but just average at other times.
Looking forward to the tart of the regular season

Riverside dialed scoreboard back to 0-0 at half and it was 3-3 at one point before time out was called. Cats then finished them. Draw control was a big contributor to the score. Always a great atmosphere and hosts at Riverside.
Anonymous wrote:Congratulations to Battlefield last night from a Riverside fan. I thought the Bobcats played well. You can tell the team has been playing together for a while. They looked organized from top to bottom. And they mean business. I can appreciate their style of play.
I agree with a PP. The draw was key. Battlefield seemed to settle on one primary player taking the draw for most of the night. It looked like Riverside was testing many combinations. Draws will come down to circle play and Battlefield had the advantage there last night.
Someone mentioned the Riverside commits. They do have four. Their goalie commit did not play last night. They had a fill in who doesn’t have a lot of experience in goal. Several of the other commits sat out for good chunks of the game as someone already mentioned. And several girls who will be counted on to start sat out last night. Not sure why.
Battlefield will be a very good team this season. I think other teams on their schedule will have their hands full. I’m not quite sure what to expect from Riverside since they haven’t fielded a regular starting lineup in their scrimmages. They have a really young team. Some with no lacrosse background at all having to play significant minutes.
Again, congratulations to Battlefield. And best of luck this season.
Anonymous wrote:Does Battlefield have any commits or top club players? Seems like they have to have some sort of edge to generate this score over a team like riverside with 4 commits.

She lives in Loudoun. The top choice (school-wise) most recently is PVI since it's west of the beltway. However, many girls jump on the toll road or other East/West roads to go into the city to attend school like Visi, SSSA, Potomac, etc. If you live closer to the city and your daughter will attend a school like Yorktown, Mclean, Langley, etc., with a greater amount of good players, the private school option seems less attractive (Although it's still common).
The private school migration allows players to continue to play lacrosse at a high level in high school with their travel mates. Otherwise, you only have 1 or 2 good players in each Loudoun high school. Some teams even fewer. This is not unique to lacrosse. Top football, basketball, etc. kids are doing the same thing. I expect both Riverside and Dominion to be weaker in the coming years as a result. It's unfortunate for kids that want to play at a high level and are good enough to play at a high/private school level, but want to attend their public high school for whatever reason. My daughter played at her public school and graduated last year while my son is currently in 7th grade. We are grappling with the public/private school decision now. He's a very good lacrosse player and student.
Just my observations over the last few years.
I agree. Battlefield does not seem to lose as many to private schools as many others have
The gates of their gated communities work both ways. Lock the riff-raff out, lock the lax players in....
