Instead of focusing on benign speeding, police ought to focus on cracking down on vehicles without proper plates, registration, and licensing. That would actually crack down on crime to varying degrees.

I sincerely do not understand this at all. There are people walking through parking spaces all the time, and backing in is just as (if not more) dangerous than backing out of a space.

The worst drivers these days are driving:

- Tesla
- Lexus RX
- Range Rovers
- VW Atlas
- White SUV of any brand. I don't know what it is about people who drive white SUVs, but no matter the brand, they're frequently driven by people who are spaced out or have no concept of driving etiquette.

I back into spaces, because I just had this fear of backing out and hitting someone, especially as I don't drive SUVs so my sightline backing out from between two of them isn't great, but I think with more backup assistance features this becomes less of an issue.

Me, I don't think speeding is dangerous by default. The details matter. 80 on the highway? If you're alert, it's perfectly fine. 80 on a local road? Um, no. If it's 35, 45 can be totally safe. IF it's 45, 60 can be fine.

There are TONS of unsafe "slow" (or speed limit) drivers who are distracted, do not have good control, and are unsafe. I say this as someone who's lived car-less for many years, and still lives in a highly walkable area (and walks a lot myself). The person going speed limit but on a hands free phone call, is WAY more distracted than someone going 15 over, but fully present.

What's your unpopular driving opinion?

The reason highways are safe at speeds over posted limits is because they are designed for higher speeds. Regulations require determining what the real speed is that people actually drive and working from there.

And then you come out with a cart full of groceries, which you have to park in front of your car, while you slide in between your car and another one to get to the back and put your bags inside.

People who back into spaces are THE WORST.

I don't buy the "safer" argument, because people are still walking through the parking lot as you're taking forever to back in. I'd argue it's more unsafe, because you spend more time moving your vehicle in a parking lot with moving people. Because backing in takes so damn long.

I was a passenger in car on 695N one time (before it was 695, in fact) and I personally witnessed a young woman blow past the 6th Street SE exit, slam on her brakes and SLOWLY START BACKING UP IN THE RIGHT LANE so she could take that exit.

We passed her, and she was -- of course -- on her phone, using one hand to hold the phone and the other to try and steer as she backed up on the highway at least 500 yards.

I rolled down my window and screamed "DROP THE PHONE AND DRIVE FORWARD -- YOU ARE GOING TO DIE!"

She didn't drop the phone, and I assume she didn't die. I actually read the news that night to find out.

As a pedestrian and runner, I 100% agree with this. Because they don’t just create an unsafe environment for cars, but other pedestrians as well.


Dp and I agree with this, too. Despite being the most vulnerable part of traffic, pedestrians seem to think not being able to hear your surroundings is acceptable. Cyclists who wear earbuds/headphones are even worse.

Do you just not care if you get hit by a car? Statistically speaking, it’s going to hurt you more than the car…

Most of you can't do it well so you take freakin 3x's as long to park in the space than if you just pulled in. Meanwhile I find a space 2 down from you and are out me car and in the store and you're still trying to park (this is just funny), but the worst is if we are both looking for a space in a lot and I'm behind you, I see a space but assume you are going to get it, you pass it, so just when I think I'm getting it, you stop to start backing in. UGH! Now I have to back up and hope someone wasn't behind me so the whole line of us are screwed because you want to "pull out faster" I HATE YOU PEOPLE!

Turn on your headlights at night. I’ve seen too many drivers relying on daytime driving lights and have no illuminated tail lights. (JFC)

Seriously WTF is with these people. They all have newer model cars which all must have an automatic headlight setting. Friday night we passed one on a super dark interstate with no streetlights. How are they seeing ahead of them? Why do they not care that no one can see them until they’re right on top of them? So bewildering.
