Europeans have done tons of distasteful violent things to non-Europeans so I don’t know that you should hold them as model of anything.

You mean Russia, with Wagner Group and several other Putin-funded paramilitary groups with thousands of their mercs running around in a dozen countries in Africa and elsewhere promoting pro-Russia and anti-West coups and revolutions and supplying terrorists with arms. They are doing far more to destabilize and incite violence than anyone.
Even Donbas was a sham. The media keeps calling them "separatists" - which is false. Prior to 2014 Donbas was in peace with Ukraine. Putin sent a huge number of Russian provocateurs into Donbas to stage its revolution and independence movement and DPR has been nothing but an extension of the Russian army this whole time.

War is senseless. It would be wonderful if Russia would utterly fail at gaining anything with this war. Russia started this with with aspirations of demilitarizing Ukraine. Perhaps Russia is the country that will be demilitarized in the end?
