Exactly on point about Jonah. He lived in a hotel to be away from his evil mother. He loved Buddy and his uncle. He was the only one in the family with a moral compass. Did not believe the ending for a minute. It was like it was written by a teenager. He would not have shot that cop for his mother. He wanted justice for his uncle. Ruth dying was just wrong. We needed someone to hope for. The ending was bleak.

It really was a hopeless ending. Byrdes didn’t escape the life, their kids are becoming like them, and Ruth - Ruth!, whose story amazingly had hope amd change post-Wyatt’s death, was ended.

I mean, ok, but similar to the Sopranos they were all in with drugs, the mob, and the cartel. Ruth included.

Ruth was ready to accept that the KC mob killed Darlene and Wyatt in revenge for Darlene killing the head of the KC mob. Heck, she was on her way out of town. She could not set aside her impulse control and need for revenge/justice once she learned otherwise. She knew she would always have to be looking over her shoulder.

As far as Jonah and Charlotte - when it turned out that their grandfather didn't really give a crap about them and only took on their mother because "F her!" they went back to what they know, which is their family. Is Wendy terrible and ruthless? Yes. Will Wendy also do whatever she needs to do to protect them? Also yes. Some jerkface PI is sitting in your backyard with your uncle's ashes telling you that he's going to destroy the one constant in your life. Probably not a hard choice for Jonah.

Jonah already had left his parents when he moved into that hotel. He thought independently and thought his mother was evil for killing her brother. The writers wanted us to believe he not only gave up but did a 180 and killed the one man wanting justice for his uncle. Don’t buy it- terrible ending.

Jonah operates on the whim of a teenager, and he makes decisions based largely on emotions, rather than introspection. He lived at the motel as a f*ck you to Wendy. He told Ruth that it was Javi who killed Wyatt, when anyone with two brain cells knows that's the last thing you tell Ruth if you cared for her at all. When Wendy finally apologized for Ben's death and her role in it, it went a long way to take away his anger toward her. Then the car accident and almost losing his mom. Those events turned him around and emotionally he's a Byrd again.
