While she says expanding school choice is most important, more people might be inclined not to give up on our failing public schools if the first three measures were implemented. It's the hard drift to the far-left, large class sizes, and the neglect by school officials to pay attention to basic things like sound planning and facilities management (such a total debacle recently in both APS and FCPS, aided and abetted by corrupt School Boards) that are causing so many to look for alternatives.

Bulleted out just like GOP shill.

Eliminating certification? WTH?

Youngkin has shown us that vouchers are in play. Hopefully public school parents push back.

Thanks for the accolades. I’m the prior PP and was a long-time Democrat. Still support Biden but the local Democrats in NoVa are nuts. Keep calling us GOP shills and we’ll keep exploring other electoral options.

Did you vote for Youngkin?

Yes, but not for Sears, Miyares, or the R running for our VA House seat.

So you voted for Youngkin and you’re pushing GOP talking points.

Whether you’re getting paid or not you sound like a shill.

You are obviously a one-dimensional mouthpiece for the Virginia Democrats, so of course anyone exercising independent judgment is a “shill” in your book. Not surprised. It’s the only game your crowd knows how to play.

I’m a mommy who did this. First R vote ever. An good. After t*ts how last year, FCPS proved they should not have a monopoly or free education. If there had been charters and vouchers, FCPS would have had to open— or become defunct. Nothing wrong with making the, compete for students with the private sector.

Bring on charters, vouchers, magnets, smaller more specialized HSs, etc.

Stop with the equity at the center of it all nonsense. The primary job of a school system is education. That should be their #1, #2 and #3 priorities.

Renaming schools, changing admissions to 1 HS, equity dashboards, etc. should be way down the agenda of a school board.

Not a public school board. Public schools are required by law to responsive to all, not cater to upper middle class children of privilege who were born on third and whose parents think they hit a triple.

If you want the things you list, private school is a legitimate option.

As a taxpayer, I am far more concerned that the needs of the underserved are met first and foremost.

Quality schools focused on education are only for those whose parents can pay.
Everyone else gets name changes and lowered standards.

Yay.

Please, the worst HS in FCPS is leaps and bounds above the majority in the US. Ridiculous.

so true.

Mt Vernon is one of the worst schools in the state by just about any metric. Langley is one of the best. Depending on where you live, FCPS is either a massively successful district or an utter failure. Based on where I live, bring on the vouchers and charters because I might as well be able to offset some of the cost of private. If the rest of the system collapses, maybe it will reach our level which FCPS seems to be fine with.

Right. So people who support vouchers DGAF if public schools suffer.

Noted.

Sure. The school board doesn't seem to care about us, so why not make the feeling mutual?

The school board isn’t going to suffer. The public school kids will suffer.

Will send property values down the toilet.

We're zoned for a school with a very large portion of FARMS students. If the charters pull away those kids (because that's who for profit charters attract), I think it will be great for the school.

Charters attract non-FARMS families looking to escape their high-FARMS schools.

Property values will nose dive.

That isn't remotely true in most places. Charters attract people susceptible to their sales pitches. Most are barely even schools.

Study after study shows these don't work.

By the end of this decade the only schools that will be providing a high quality education will be elite private/boarding schools and small public schools in mastered planned and wealthy neighborhoods.

People really don't know the totality of what their asking for.
