It's only one thing needed - illegal possession of firearm UNLESS you enroll in a mandatory firearm class to learn gun safety and use. That's the only way you get one. That's it. So you want one - pass a test you can keep it. Background checks mandatory too but honestly that won't stop someone positively who is mentally ill from having one. But you gotta know how to store and shoot at minimum and that process and testing must be rigorous and a longer process than 2 days!

Violent crime using a firearm. Theft 30 years. Assault 40 years. Manslaughter/Murder - life.

Start with Mexico, northern South American countries and Caribbean countries. All out war on drugs and major registration effort on guns.

All out war would tend to increase violence. Also, all out war against dozens of countries around the world seems like a bad idea.

Drugs, drugs, and more drugs. Cartels, gangs, etc. Guns are the great facilitator, but not the cause. Go after the root cause.

I know you're exaggerating for effect, but "more guns" does seem to be the only solution the Republicans have to offer for the uptick in violence in the US. It's the only social problem I can think of where the solution offered by one group (Republicans) is MORE of the same problem: Too much crime on the streets? More guns! Too many school shootings? More guns! Too much rioting? More guns! How does this make sense? It's like saying that the solution to the opioid epidemic, for example, is to make even more opioids available.

The black men left will be able to live like other races since they won’t be so disproportionately involved in crime anymore. Who wouldn’t want to vote for that??

Why don’t we start with putting the 20 million violent criminals we have loose on our streets into prison for the rest of their lives where they belong. Then guns will lose their appeal because the nonviolent people won’t feel like we need them.

why dont we create better circumstances in our contry so there wouldnt be so many violent criminals.

I wanted a gun because I live alone. Also, I think it’s important that more Black people educate themselves about guns and become gun owners. I don’t think guns are for everyone. But, it’s important to look at what’s happening around you. If we don’t educate ourselves, we become like sitting ducks.

Again, I’m 100% for gun reform. While I continue to vote for people who will make this happen, I’m making sure I can protect myself if need be.

As it is right now, it’ll take decades for us to see any change after we enact common-sense gun reform.

People who want gun reform are not anti-gun.

thanks for the contributing to the problem of gun violence in this country. Gullible people watch fox news and think crime is out of control, they rush out and buy a bunch of weapons of war. Some eventually have mental issues or have stress or their kids get bullied and suddenly they either turn the gun on themselves or go out and hurt a lot of people. It's just tragic at this point.

Your hysteria and hyperbole helps absolutely nothing. I am not contributing to the problem of gun violence in this country.

How is it hyperbolic to claim that gullible people buy guns and become a menace to society? Did you think the sandy hook mom bought guns knowing her autistic kid would go on a shooting spree. Nobody think they are a gun nutter, you all think you are “responsible” gun owners and it has done nothing to stop tragedies in this country.

I agree that it’s tragic. And the SH mom shouldn’t have been able to have the arsenal of guns she had…especially since her son was previously reported for his behavior.

As a single Black woman, however, I will not sit unarmed waiting for this country to enact common-sense gun laws. I’ve felt threatened for many years now. Unlike many others, I’m making sure I’m properly trained and educated on the use of my gun.

I also vote every damn election for people who want the same gun reform I do.

Disparage me, call me names… I don’t care. You might want to spend more time talking to the voting block who votes for this free-for-all gun state we live in. (Hint: It’s not Black women.)

You realize that the statistics show that your gun is far more likely to be used to kill / injure someone in your home than as part of any “self defense” scenario, right?

You’d really need to see statistics where the gun is properly secured and the owner has training for that to be a fair statement.

Oh wait, we have those statistics. It’s Switzerland. And hint: they don’t have a problem with their firearms.

Are you saying the NRA/Gun Lobby would be cool with those being legal requirements? Yeah, didn’t think so.

Switzerland has border control. So there’s that

What the hell does that have to do with anything? The overwhelming majority of murders committed in the USA are being committed by US citizens born and raised here in the USA.

All that said, I am a Black woman who purchased her first gun (a Glock 9mm) last month.

It’s important to have more Black gun owners….especially Black women. I’ll de dammed if I let republican Qooks be the only gun owners in this country.

I am curious why you thought you need a gun in the first place. Are you not somewhere where police is nearby? You know you are far more likely to use that gun on yourself than an criminal right?

I’m curious why you feel the need to interrogate her about her choices to protect herself. Why do you give yourself such authority over a woman?

Good question. Would you ask a man the same thing?
