I have a second grader and we receive a lot of the completed work, but it's mostly in worksheets so it's hard to find something creative that could be used as a work sample for AAP. Hopefully the teachers are keeping some of the best work to submit with the packets.

I personally think AAP starts too early. Differentiating kids at 8 years old into entirely different classes is too soon. COVID has made this even worse. Some of the third graders in AAP Level IV had not seen the inside of a classroom since March of 1st grade, yet were deemed qualified for AAP based off of almost no testing, and limited teacher interaction. FCPS should have made a decision to delay AAP Level IV until 4th grade for these students. I believe the same decision should have been made for this years 2nd graders. These 2nd graders have never experienced a normal school year. The ones who will seem the most advanced at a young age are those with involved, highly educated parents who were able to provide supplemental learning during COVID. Also, as a parent of a second grader - I have received almost nothing home from the school this year. Our school is no homework this year as well, so it's not even easy to see what is being learned and supplement easily. Not impressed with FCPS or AAP. I know of at least one third grader in AAP IV who got in with work entirely done by his parents.

The upper class don’t go to FCPS and definitely don’t care about AAP.

That doesn't make any sense at all. Average families have kids in AAP. Are they at the expense of themselves?

Also if you get rid of AAP, the "upper class" families that PP is saying are using the program will just leave for privates with high academic standards.

Leaving the "average family" or even the under-average family with nothing.
