I am seeing the impact of this realtime in my classroom. Students that have a chronic history of unexcused absences, some who missed more than 40 days of school last year and now out for 3-5 days absent excused due to quarantine. I have students who have missed more than 3 days 2X this school year already for this reason. These are students in 4th grade and cannot write their own name and are reading between grade level k-1.
If you are not sending your kids to school please make sure you are trying to educate them. Gaps these large are incredibly difficult to close and the SEL toll on these kids in a classroom of students on grade level are devastating; they struggle and are lost all day long. It's heartbreaking.

It is also questionable whether they in fact are providing any education (whether they are, in fact, "just homeschooling"), hence the need for CFS.

I’m 15 pages in and I still don’t understand the need for this piece of the legislation. Typically, I think the “just homeschool” argument is a bit harsh and privileged.
