I don’t think so. I think no matter who wins, this round of limited boundary changes (limited compared to what they seemingly wanted to do initially and in comparison to “scenario 3” and the BRAC suggested changes) will go through. However the results of last years Pres. election and the resulting change in the political atmosphere of the whole country definitely put the brakes on big changes for equity that the SB had previously been making noise about since before Covid.

Moving the Rolling Valley Lewis students to WSHS and moving other neighborhoods out of WSHS to make room for the Lewis kids has been the Springfield representative's biggest rezoning priority since FCPS started revising policy 8130.

So who is it? Which family supported Anderson or is close to Anderson’s family if this is the case?

We were told that she was advocating for this group because some groups can’t organize and spend time advocating like our group. It was a very surprising statement, because we are also households of busy working parents, who are federal workers, military, teachers, etc. We don’t have any more resources than this RVES pocket.

So, equity??

That doesn't make sense.

That RV neighborhood is just as wealthy as the rest of 22152 and has a similar demographic as the rest of WSHS.

DP. Whenever the school board hears that a community doesn’t want something, they immediately pretend that there is some other silent community who wants the opposite. That way, they can justify screwing over the first community.

For the most part, they just keep revising the proposals to reflect the last group of noisy parents who chewed their ear off. Not sure the end result will be anything like what they claimed they wanted to accomplish.

Comprehensive boundary review is a shitty game of musical chairs.

Every boundary review is musical chairs because every boundary review shifts seats in a zero sum environment.

That's an odd statement. How is it a zero sum environment when they get money every few years for capital projects and boundary changes can be one-way? It's not like they move kids out of every school they move kids into.

DP. It's zero sum for the homeowners depending on which schools they end up with

Not necessarily. Could be net positive or net negative depending on how it's done.

Call her out on the feedback form and email her directly to express the disappointment. Feedback is crucial now on these maps.

That Rolling Valley/Lewis neighborhood is going to end up with as many or more kids than Daventry brought to WSHS.

No it won’t. The more you say it doesn’t make it any more likely to happen.

Are you kidding me?! It will 100% guaranteed bring more students to WSHS Than the current 20 they project. We have two families in our neighbors who moved from that neighborhood to ours to insure WSHS. Now families like theirs will not need to move. More families with HSers will stay put. Daventry a publish school enrollment for HS has skyrocketed in the past 15 years for the same reason.

Daventry has about four times as many houses as that section of townhomes, maybe more. It’s also on a five year review cycle now, unfortunately.

If you don’t want that section going to WSHS - go with the angle of “you shouldn’t take kids from Lewis” angle instead.

I’m familiar with the townhome community in question. The obsession over it is unhinged.

Daventry has 724 homes.

That Rolling Valley/Lewis neighborhood has 282 homes based on google maps.

Daventry has just over 2.5 more homes than the Lewis Rolling Valley neighborhood, not "4 times as many".

They both had around 20 high school students as the number used for justifying the rezoning.

Based on the rezoning numbers, the Rolling Valley neighborhood already has a higher concentration of high school students than Daventry did.

Rolling Valley: 20 HS students/282 homes = 7%

Daventry: 20 HS students/724 homes = 2.7%

Look, I think that the part of that RV neighborhood inside the parkway that exits onto Rolling Road going to WSHS makes sense on paper. (Not the streets that exit only onto the Pkwy; those Lewis RV neighborhoods should go to Saratoga and stay at Lewis with the handful of RV houses outside the Pkwy, since they must get on the Parkway to go to all of the 4 schools.) Anyone who tries to ignore what happened to Daventry, claiming that it won't happen to that Rolling Valley Lewis neighborhood are either being willfully ignorant, or flat out lying.

We have the recent example of Daventry, so we know exactly what will happen to enrollment from that neighborhood in the next 2-4 years.

It might not bring in as many students as Daventry did, but it will be close and far more students to WSHS than 20.

I’m genuinely curious about your obsession with this. What gives? Do you have kids at Lewis? Do you have nothing better to do than hound this speculation over and over and over again?

DP but no. I don’t have students at Lewis or WSHS. I just think it’s a perfect example of how FCPS hasn’t learned from previous re-zoning mistakes. “20 kids at Lewis” will balloon to 80 at WSHS, easily. And for a school like WS that’s supposedly over-crowded, they shouldn’t be moving anyone else in. And they also moved some of the attendance islands and split feeders out in order to make room for this neighborhood … so what was the reason for making this change anyway? The split feeder could have easily been closed by moving all the current RVES split neighborhoods to Saratoga.

You are right but Sandy Anderson is venal and corrupt.
