No one is talking about 2013-2017, only 2018-2024. So the most recent five years of only high school recruiting are included in these numbers. The only truly affected high school season was 2020. The remaining years still had seasons, just condensed and there were so many social media highlights and live streams that coaches could easily watch from their homes/offices. I know kids who committed right after the 2021 high school season ended. High School is one piece of the puzzle, but it definitely matters for academic and athletic strength. It gives coaches some context and shows the full picture of the student-athlete. Coaches want kids who will do well academically in college and not drop out or struggle. They need kids who can handle the full-time commitment of college academics and athletics. And yes, do public school kids commit to play in college, yes, but the numbers are 100% greater for private school kids.
