I can see parents with kids at Oakton being less excited. Oakton is an excellent school with an established track record. It is one of the top schools in FCPS, leaving it for an unknown entity is going to be hard. I know some families are happy to do so because they bus ride is really long and they are comfortable with the population that will be at the new school. The Floris, Oak Hill, Fox Mill kids are all high achieving type kids/families so you can expect a strong academic peer group. I don't know Coates or McNair so I can't speak to those schools.

Moving schools is not easy and moving from a top school to the unknown is disconcerting. I get that.

To clarify, Floris is only reunited in one Option (Scenario B I believe). "A" keeps the current split, and "C" and "D" create a bigger split by pulling out the Dulles Discovery neighborhoods.

It sounds like FCPS is letting even current middle schoolers have a choice, so I don't know why so many Oakton families are being so selfish and trying to make decisions that will impact elementary-aged kids for years and years just so their older kids don't get moved. I hope the school board sees right through them.

So you want our kids to suffer for yours? If it's 100% ready to go then so be it but these kids will not only be moving to a new school, they'll be moving to a construction site with all new teachers, new leadership, new students, minimal programs, no established sports programs, no fields. Etc

If this is really true than you should be working with the rest of the community - everyone in Oak Hill - to ask FCPS to wait and give it another year before opening the new school. I think EVERYONE can agree that would be best for all children. But nope, you just want your kids to do sports at Oakton.

No, just no. Property values aren't going to drop when kids get moved to the newest, nicest school in the county. They wouldn't even drop that much if the move was to South Lakes with their IB nonsense.

Similar houses zoned to Oakton, SL, Chantilly and even Westfield sell for similar prices now. Maybe 10-15 years ago this was not the case, but it is no longer true. Oakton families who live in Herndon are a little delusional about their property values.
