PP's point is likely that this shutdown will disproportionately impact Democrats. For instance, Democrats are much more likely to fly for leisure than Republicans, so they'll notice these hiccups first. Same with SNAP, Democrats will notice the pause in SNAP first, and uh, react (in)appropriately.

So why Democrats are using a shutdown for leverage, when their own people are disproportionately impacted raises a lot of questions.

Well you're not paying a huge tax bill for this crap show. So why should you care?

Having to rely on an unpaid military. Having to fly relying on unpaid air traffic controllers and unpaid TSA agents. Having your lower income, friends and neighbors not receive any snap benefits. Trying to figure out health insurance plan for your family when you have no clarity on. Is this huge increase real? Can I afford it? Am I going to have to go without health insurance? Our elected representatives actually going to show up to work and do something about it? And on and on and on.

Sadly, very few people care.

70% of government employees are being required to work without pay.

The other 30% were probably working in more esoteric policy and legal work that doesn’t have any immediate impact but having their work interrupted costs a lot of money in the long run.

It’s like putting $10,000 on your credit card one month… you’re not going to feel it until your payment is due the next month.

The average elected Republican is a full standard deviation to the left of the average Republican voter. If they "governed," they'd be booted out of office quickly, so they just say no instead.

If it goes on into 2026 and you start working on your taxes, you may begin wondering where all your tax money is going if there isn't a functioning government. Argentina? Another ballroom? A presidential yacht?
