The media IS the problem. And left wing media is problematic too, in its own way - it's just currently, it's not outright lying to the American people like the other side is doing.

Which outlets are "left wing" as opposed to, you know, just telling the truth? Because I can name the several right wing outlets and platforms that do nothing but lie, including now, CBS.

PP you replied to. Well I was mostly thinking back to pre-debate Biden days when the leftwing media were not asking hard-hitting questions about his fitness, at a time when the rightwing media was already all over it... which they were correct to do. They unearthed videos that leftwing media never showed, and dissected them, and they were entirely accurate in their assessment that he was too old for the job. Funny how they can't seem to make an accurate assessment today with Trump, even though he's now in worse shape than Biden.

All media just presents their own version of reality, but some media are worse than others.

It might be what MAGA voted for, but remember, Trump didn't even get a majority of the votes.

Very disappointing.

The other thing to wonder about is the actual numbers of people identifying as republicans and whether that is changing at all. If 60% of republicans approve but that 60% only accounts for 20% of the population.

The poll cited in the post above yours shows exactly that. It’s a 12 point swing. I wonder how or if they account for that in approval polls. If they keep assuming the same partisan split when they weight the poll it would end up overweighting republicans

Yes. Thank you for better articulating what I was grasping for! It would definitely be useful for pollsters to flesh that nuance out.

If you’ve ever been polled (I have, a bunch of times) they ask you your party and if you identify with one and if you lean toward one or the other as part of every poll.

Yes, they do that so they can weight final results. They don’t want over representation of one party or the other. The issue is what they use to figure out what the correct weighting is when there are large shifts in partisan identification over a pretty short time. If they are still using the split from Nov 2024 that’s going to hugely overweight republicans.

So it would need to be closer to 60-40 for the Dems to do the same.

The Dems did not win the congressional vote 55-45 in 2024. The Rs won it by 2.73%

Good point.
