Most people are "office dorks" because we need jobs. Some "office dorks" also enjoy hiking. So, who is allowed to hike, and how do you think they should do it?

A trendy fad? Hiking has always been popular. maybe a bit more so during the pandemic as some indoor crowded stuff fell out of popularity. A small handful of people instagram reviewing products is not unique to hiking, it is ubiquitous for any hobby.

Real hikers geek out on identifying plants and animals, and aren't posting pictures of themselves on social media. There are dorks who decide to take up hiking because they think it's trendy, and then go from never having hiked before to hiking the Appalachian Trail, just to be able to brag about it.

Wow, are you jealous of this couple’s wealth, fitness, attractiveness, and their cute dog and baby? And now it’s schadenfreude? Why are you triggered by a family who loves the great outdoors? I love to hike. It’s not to show off but to enjoy nature, the outdoors, the solitude, the mental and physical benefits. People have been hiking for pleasure for centuries. It’s not some fad.

I just snorted. I took a break from this thread for a while, came back and was pleasantly impressed new information was found about the hiking trail, algae, and a picture of the couple with baby in carrier and the dog. The family can't be saved, but this thread can be kept alive.

Per friends and per her insta they hiked every weekend, it was more than adventure tours.

I got waaaay to invested early on. Like page 3. I keep refreshing the thread to see if there are any substantial updates, and when I see people asking the same questions for the gazillionth time, I can't stop myself from answering them. I try to answer nicely even though I want to tell them to read the fing thread.

My own thinking on this has evolved over the course of the thread. I fully realize that we may never know what actually happened, or why. But I still hope that we'll get some answers!
