What’s the allure? I’m not anti nature but hiking is pretty boring.
If hiking is boring to you, leave nature for those who enjoy it. I do think it has gotten more popular and mainstream but it's not a fleeting fad. The allure-fresh air, sunshine, exercise, endorphins, wildlife, vegetation, scenery...dare I say boulders, escaping other humans, a sense of awe, etc.
Cringe. It’s so great that you have to document it with 1000 photos and all your expensive gear? Office dorks posturing as outdoorsy. And it’s always office dorks getting themselves into trouble from weather or wild animals or injuries.

Sorry you’re not on our level and don’t appreciate the awe of ... shopping for bear spray and new hiking boots. Office dorks desperate for rough edges. It’s like the middle aged dorks doing tough mudder competitions, but much less testosterone.
So cringe.

How dead is your life that you can while away hours at a time on here speculating as to facts that may NEVER be conclusively determined? Am I missing something? What is your secondary gain from grinding away at this?
I think it’s the unhinged Megan Markle haters. Looking for a new target.
I took a break from this thread for a while, came back and was pleasantly impressed new information was found about the hiking trail, algae, and a picture of the couple with baby in carrier and the dog. The family can't be saved, but this thread can be kept alive.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Is hiking some trendy fad with liberal yuppies? It's an episode of Dateline playing out in real time.
Except it’s random people manufacturing scenarios out of the blue (based on their own anxieties) and Hallmark movie plots.
At least Dateline would work off of facts.
You missed the playing out in real time part.

Some people enjoy mysteries. It beats all the Covid crap.
This. It's a mystery! And we DCUM folk love solving mysteries

95+ here with humidity is 1000x worse than 105+ with no humidity.
Except that, as has been posted multiple times on this thread, it was unusually humid as well as unusually hot when they set out on 8/15. The relative humidity was 47% at 8:00 am that day. By 11:00 am it was 99 degrees and 22% relative humidity. The lowest humidity point during the day, at 3:00 pm was 16%, when it was 109. Absolutely miserable, beastly weather anyway you slice it.
