Plenty of reasons not to go to SJC, but if you want to play with and against the largest group of top players in the DMV every day in practice, nowhere else is close. It’s a factory, and most kids who go though that program get better individually. Speaks doesn’t seem to be able to coach teamwork, but everyone gets better when they play with and against the best players.

Kids get recruited in spite of Speaks. D1 committed players not getting into games is malpractice. Making promises to players in every class has its limits. By the time the 2030 parents realize Brayden won't see the field until after he's committed - they will be too far into the process to transfer. That is the secret sauce.

Latest Inside Lacrosse Rankings:

Only local DMV team in the top 25 is Paul VI at #17.

Calvert Hall is the lone MIAA team in the rankings at #21.

There are only a handful of local programs that a D1 coach is going to call. SJC, GZ, GC, PVI, Landon, Bullis, GP, STA

Just looking at things from the perspectives of lacrosse, but for basically $60 k per year, if your son is working towards playing in college, why would you ever go to Saint Stephens or Episcopal? Last 2-3 years they're just not good. Is it pipeline, coaching, school commitment to lacrosse or what? Just trying to identify where in northern va we should steer our young son.

They aren't, though. Your assumption doesn't pass the eye test or the quant analysis (laxnumbers):

Bullis 95.92
Prep 95.58
PVI 95.54
SJC 95.20

I'm in the camp of: any of these teams could snag any others on a given day.

100% agree toss up on any given day! All four have strong Goalie play, Great Defense and Offense that can put up points.

There are kids that barely play on the WCAC teams that would start/play plenty at the IAC schools. This board isn't for calling kids out so not going to do that.

And there are IAC coaches that would take WCAC coaches’ jobs

Those kids should start and or play at those IAC schools. Why go to GZ and SJC and watch others play!

They can't afford the tuition.

Clearly you have no clue. lol

Yes and no.

For one thing, SJC is the only WCAC school with an abundance of talent and D1 commits sitting on the bench. GZ and GC are holding it together with shallow rosters and grit. PVI is all seniors, and will likely be a total non-factor next year.

Secondly (and I'm no SJC fan), but the "path to college" formula is working at SJC. Kids from SJC are going to far better academic colleges than they would without lacrosse. Much of that is club related of course, but like or not, SJC's program carries enough stature nationally (maybe not deserved) to give lax recruits an added boost.

Now of course Landon, Bullis and Prep carry that same national lax stature, but they also come with dramatically higher tuitions and a more rigorous academic load.

WCAC vs IAC will NEVER happen.

They both are playing plenty of games. IAC has more flexibility to play out of conference then WCAC with number in the conference. At least SJC will play a hard schedule out of conference as does GZ. PVI and GC not so much and PVI has to play the VISAA teams (lame).

Tuesday:
Prep over Landon
Bullis over STA
PVI over BMA
SJC over GC
GZ over SMR

Friday:

PVI over GC by 2 (both high scoring but PVI better goalie play)

The cadets' non-league schedule doesn't pass the eyeball test this year. BL victory holds little weight this spring; it's the worst Laker team in two decades.

If Speaks wasn't so disliked by area coaches, he'd have a shot to play 2 - 3 teams from the IAC. And I can assure you, Bullis, GP and Landon aren't afraid of the Cadets.

Playing Culver and St Anthony's doesn't mean squat if you are getting curb-stomped.

Cadets were not curb stomped by St. Anthony's and they would of wiped the floor with St. Ignatius. Unfortunately no one will be satisfied until the best teams in the area play each other, but agree it will never happen because of pettiness of local coaches who all have HUGE egos.
