I really hope I am wrong.

Even if they don’t have more, I still think there is enough to charge him. And let a jury decide.

Charge him with what, though? How do you link him to the stabbing? If they share all their evidence with AP they might as well hand it over to BB at the same time.

*Why would BB, a trained LEO with a service weapon on him which he had already used once, need assistance from his employee to access a second gun and finish off the "intruder" when he could have easily done that himself? What possible reason could he have thought up to give authorities for the need for assistance from the AP?

*Obviously, having the AP shoot the second gun was part of BB's plan, but how was BB planning to explain to authorities why his employee knew the location of the gun, the combination of the safe, and how to use the gun? It can't be common practice for households that employ au pairs and have gun safes with guns in them to instruct the au pair on how to access and use the gun. You might instruct them on how to use an alarm system or dial 911 but teach them how to access a gun? Doesn't make sense.

*It seems like BB wanted the AP to be complicit in the shooting, which is why he took her to the gun range to train her on how to use the gun, subsequently purchased a gun for her to use, told her how to access it, and then told her to use it on Joe. But what convoluted reason could he have possibly given her for why she needed to do that in the first place? Was he thinking it would somehow make him personally less culpable if there was a second shooter?

Make it make sense!

I have had the same questions. If they thought Ryan was still a threat even after being shot/ blinded, why did they take the time for her to go to the safe get the code to open the safe, retrieve the gun and shoot it instead of him just shooting again. It just doesn’t make sense.

I'm starting to think that Banfield set this up for Magalhes to carry out on her own, but on the morning of she chickened out and that's why you have this string of events that don't make sense.

Like the hang up 911 call...

I think this poster is onto something. The AP was supposed to do it. She chickened out. Is it possible the first shot was from her and it somewhat missed? Would BB have missed at such close range? Bet he shot second. And that explains the asking her to get the gun and shoot problem. Never happened. But they had to explain how a gun got in her hand.

He could say the crazy AP was jealous and wanted his wife dead. And that anything she says can’t be trusted. Being from another country and obsessed with him etc.

One question. The groaning was from the second 911 call not first correct? Someone above suggested first but I think that is wrong.

That's my theory - that Banfield set this up for Magalhes to do it alone but Magalhes chickened out. Then they panicked and had Magalhes get her gun as planned and fire a shot, but didn't think through how that was going to look upon investigation. Because a story of a hero au pair killing an intruder with a gun she kept securely locked up until needed is a great narrative and all the pieces click.

So the fun was never in the safe per your theory? Why not say she had her own gun on her when she thought there was an intruder ?

Thanks for this link. Found an nteresting new nugget of info in the article:

"They also said both the au pair and husband swapped out their phones for new ones in the days leading up to the attack."

The au pair and BB got new phones days before the attack? Sounds sus to me.

Wonder if the old phones were found or if they had been discarded as having possibly incriminating info on them?

Probably discarded but law enforcement would still be able to get a lot of information if BB and the AP had been using those phones in a normal way prior to discarding them.

Oh wow.

I'm starting to wonder if the police don't have a whole, whole lot of evidence but are hoping to turn Magalhes just to make it airtight or a capital murder charge? I'm very interested to know what device(s) were used to create the fake profile for Christine and what device(s) were used to post/message.

The NBC News article today said a computer in the home was used to create the profile.

A fetish site used as a lure?
A search of a computer in the Bandfields' home led detectives to a fetish sex website, prosecutors said. The site catered to sexual fantasies involving kinks, BDSM, and more.

Detectives found a profile for Christine and communications between her profile and Ryan. But authorities said something didn't add up.

They said the way Christine talked to Ryan in their messages was very different than how friends and family described her.

Police believe someone else was communicating with Ryan while pretending to be Christine — setting a meetup at the family's home for that day.

For example,

What capacity magazines do police Glocks use?
Police Glocks commonly use standard capacity magazines, typically holding 17-19 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Any reason for AP to use a gun was invented by BB.

This story is so awful. I bet when the trial happens it will come out that they set up Ryan to bring a knife by having ‘Christine’ express in ‘her’ online postings that it was her kink to be raped at knifepoint.

Is Virginia a cameras in the courtroom state? I want to watch the trials on Court TV.

The gun BB used is job issued. It surely has more than 1 bullet loaded at a time.

One of Joe’s friend said very early on that Joe had told him he was going into a crazy situation that day with a married couple- a cuckhold scenario. So it would not have been weird for the husband to enter the room.

I’m a bit of a true crime addict, began in my youth when I read F Lee Bailey’s The Defense Never Rests and Fatal Vision about the Jeffrey MacDonald case. I’m convinced that early experience is at the root of my aversion to marriage for myself - growing up in a home with parents in an abusive marriage I knew that it could be very obvious how much of a monster a man was and some women would stay anyway, but I was unnerved by the idea of being married and believing it to be happy and then to meet one’s end at the hands of one’s beloved husband.

I’ve seen thousands of hours of Datelines et al., not just the American ones but sister programs from all over the globe. Oh and I spent several years as a prosecutor, too. I know that many, many women sleep every night next to their eventual killer without having a clue that there is *that* kind of monster behind his mask.

I’m typing this from my cozy bed where I am cuddled up next to my super affection and endlessly loyal border collie mix. Would not trade her for any man.

Ah, that seems plausible re: knife.

I think they had a pool broadcast re: Depp case, no? Also circuit court. Of course, there has to be a solid arrest re: the stabbing first.
