Yes. Yes they can. If they are very good at catching serious criminals. The accused, if indicted, will have access to all of the evidence at trial. That’s how this works. Not in public message boards and social media, but in a court of law.

The DOJ already addressed this in one of its court filings. That the redactions would be so pervasive as to render the document meaningless. And then offered to show the judge just what they meant.

The affidavit cannot be released because it contains sensitive information that would help the suspects, identify sources and national security documents, and impede the investigation.
The DOJ has mentioned sharing some other info, but whatever it shares will not satisfy the Trump clan, since what they really want is information the DOJ cannot release.

There's no solution here until charges come down the pipeline, or the DOJ simply closes the investigation.

This is typical of a search: the warrant asks for all classified documents and related stuff, including items in the vicinity of those documents. So the passports were near at hand and they obeyed the search warrant and took them. And then they were returned because people looking through the items determined they did not pertain to the investigation (so in their minds, not a flight risk).

A normal person searched by the FBI might not have had their stuff returned so quickly.

They're definitely treating him with kid gloves.
