It's 3.5 days. If you think you are going to "develop" a kid in 3.5 days, you are crazy. they might pick up one or two things... for almost $700.

I'd guess that if your son is not with Crabs, yes. Some goodwill sprinkles to attendees of Crabs camp to this. If your son is with Crabs, and NLF member, it's because he's a decent player for Crabs and all the decent players from the 6 NLF member clubs get invited. If it didn't work that way, the 6 constituent clubs would have a lot of unhappy patrons. There isn't a doubt that being with one of these clubs is sold as an insider track to invites. Membership has its privileges; the 'ole Jamie Munro 3d two step.

My son went last year as a 7th grader. It's an instructional camp -- not a showcase, nor a recruiting event. My son enjoyed his experience, as did several of his friends. They get in a lot of lacrosse; by the time we picked up the kids they welcomed the break. Kids come from all over the U.S., although a predominant number are from the DMV (you'll see a lot of yellow Crab helmets ...)

In my son's case it was a good opportunity to play vs. typical "AA" club players, as he was new to the club lacrosse scene with just one season under his belt.

I assume Crabs and VLC attend. Are there any other well represented teams? Is this mainly a DMV camp or does it have more reach?

There are a lot of Crabs and VLC kids, but it is a national camp because the kids board for 4 days. Most of the kids are from the MidAtlantic (more Baltimore and other parts of MD than the DMV), but they get a lot of kids from all over. West Coast, Texas, etc.

This is just for MS kids, so there's no recruiting element. Just teaching kids fundamentals. Regardless of what camp you pick, you have to find a camp that has a critical mass of kids who can play at your son's level or above. If you sign him up for a camp that has lesser kids, it won't be as good of an experience for him.

Crabs Top Prospect Camp is marketed by McClernan as an instructional camp and not a recruiting event, which is about half true.

It is expensive, but if money no object it is also one where he brings in several excellent instructors who are/were pros and high level college players. While I may seem outright against all things McClernan here I'd say while it is expensive it is also comes to a value considering the flight of coaching instruction and reps.

This is also a camp that is designed to attract out-of-region kids. Come to Top Prospect Camp and get great instruction, but also get on the field under McClernan and if he is wowed, he'll put in some advocacy to a Kentucky, Alabama, Florida, Oregon, etc. kid who'd otherwise have his unknown club coach leaving unreturned voice mails for college coaches. This is all lacrosse parents trying to buy in from a non-hot bed would need to hear to fill this up. A big part of the recruiting racket for the better and the very worst is advocacy from credible club franchises and Crabs is just that. I would say that if a kid locally here with a good club doesn't need the drive by showing to get an advocate, so should really consider this to be a good instructional camp, albeit an expensive one.
