Are they? I know the regular diplomat kids born here are not automatically citizens. That is about the only person who is not automatically a citizen born here.

My understanding is that while technically diplomat children are exempt, this is a gray area that is difficult to enforce. Basically as long as you don’t come to the hospital in a t-shirt that says “I am a foreign diplomat” the folks who process the birth certificate won’t know, and a SSN is issued automatically. Also there are a lot of adjacent professions at the embassies. See Vasily Strelnikov as an example.

Yes, exactly, and their staffers, drivers, etc all make it happen.

Wouldn’t this also come with some benefits, like the ability to tax them and execute them for treason?

Their tax structure is complex and protective, thanks to good accountants and loopholes, and they funnel money through UK, BVI, Malta, Cyprus, CH et al
Many have multiple citizenships and multiple residences. It’s not hard to plan an escape when the writing is on the wall.

Their planes cannot fly across many countries, so they are literally trapped, if they are in Russia right now.

They will need larger planes to get places since the flight path to remaining open countries is becoming exceedingly convoluted. There is still narrow access to the west from the Finland Straights, a portion of which are in international waters. And there is large access to the east, north and south. But your average private jet might not cut it

This is what the West should be worried about. A madman with his finger on the nuclear button.

Is Putin angry enough to kill millions of people? He's a murderer. There are rumors that he's ill with Parkinsons. He's 70.

This is the big gamble. Does he love Russia enough to protect it from assured destruction if he starts a nuclear war, which will destroy much of the world?

Or is a he just a bully waving his weapons around?

He's increasingly isolated, and his own people are angry with him.

I think he's bluffing, but of course I thought he was bluffing (again) about invading Ukraine.

All I have to say is that I’m relieved we have a sane human on our side with the nuclear codes.

Imagine if we still have the mentally-ill dotard at the helm? We’d already be dead.

Biden also listened to and trusted our intelligence agencies. He got out in front of the invasion and called out Russia's false flag operations openly and publicly. Weren't Republicans screaming that this was unwarranted hysteria just a few weeks ago? I guess they don't like the narrative where America and its allies win (if it means that it looks good for Biden and the Democrats).

It is important to keep in mind that it is a minority of diplomats who have full diplomatic immunity in the U.S. – and whose children, therefore, are not born as U.S. citizens. Therefore, before concluding whether or not your child received U.S. citizenship at birth, it is important to first confirm that you were, in fact, a “foreign diplomatic officer” whose name actually appeared on the Department of State’s Blue List (or on the United Nations Blue Book) at the time your child was born. As explained in an earlier post here, the Blue List is the definitive source for determining whether an individual has full diplomatic immunity.”

The problem with comments like these is that it assumes there are people in Putin's inner circle thinking like an American would.

These days all bets are off. 14 months ago no one would have thought that a bunch of Republicans would storm the Capitol.

Speaking of DWTS I’ve been following Maksim Chmerkovskly’s Instagram account since Thursday and IMO it’s pretty incredible. He’s stuck in central Kyiv at a hotel and I believe was supposed to fly out Thursday but then the war started. He posts regularly.

The importance of social media from him and from anyone else in Ukraine has never been seen before during a war conflict. The entire world can see, every person with a phone becomes a journalist.

I haven't seen that social media but the UK should shut down the London Laundromat for Putin cronies. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2022/02/26/roman-abramovich-russia-sanctions/

Lots of fine stuff and money to add to UK and USA assets. Meanwhile a brewery in the Ukraine has a special edition product for sale https://www.pravda.beer/en/pravda/ https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10224940967928849&set=a.10211702079244906

A prior regime, the USSR, ran into major difficulty after hiding Chernobyl and a hideous 10 years in Afghanistan. Putin sent his own troops into Belarus through and into the Cherobyl exclusion zone.

Meanwhile under new NYC voting laws, will the G visa types in the Russian UN goon squad get to vote in local elections?

Good question.

And their children born here are automatically US citizens.

Revoke their citizenship and their children's citizenship. Deport them all to Russia. Then see how Putin fares surrounded by angry criminals who've kept him in power until now.

This is incorrect. The kids born in the USA from parents who are diplomats DO NOT receive US citizenship. My half-brother is a diplomat from an EU country, his child was born in DC and she is not a US citizen.

Foreigner here, with friends in multiple embassies. That is correct.

. You didn’t read closely. That poster was referring to G visas.

You need to fear the madmen. Putin was a cold-blooded, calculating murderer for years, but now he seems to have a tenuous grasp of reality. This is dangerous unless he is surrounded by level-headed people.

I bring to your notice the crazy things Trump did that were averted at the last minute by White House personnel. Crazy letters he wrote to world leaders that were never sent. Crazy orders that were never given. All thanks to his staff, who while serving a madman, are not mad themselves.

North Korea is more likely to nuke someone. But that's if North Korea wishes to no longer exist.
