Building off the ridiculousness that Christina helped shape ESSA....the law was signed in 2015 which means most of the “shaping” happened when Christina was still a STUDENT. It was signed when she was barely into her first ever job as a TFA ill-equipped teacher. Let’s vote for candidates with actual experience and roots in Arlington.
Love all the republican taking points in this group. When the voters hear from Cristina personally, I believe her message will resonate with them. Change is coming!

I’m voting for Cristina and maybe Terron but waiting to learn more about him. David ran and lost to the least popular board member. Doesn’t even stand a chance. Symone’s a fed and can’t even run on the Democratic ticket so don’t even waste your time. When that HATCH comes down we’ll all be scrambling to find out about another candidate. Also, the overall sentiment that she’s divisive is true. No chance she could salvage the relationship with the current board members. She’s yelled at them one too many times. The last thing we need is a board so independent that everything gets gridlocked.
Why are you voting for Christina?
For starters, I work closely with her on a commission and have watched her work these last couple years. Here’s why I personally am a fan:
1.) Only candidate (to my knowledge) with a masters in education.
2.) She’s been a teacher in the toughest of circumstances, and she gets it. She will always be mindful of how decisions impact our teachers and students.
3.) Worked to shape federal education policy and deeply understands the bureaucratic restraints we face.
4.) Already advises school boards in challenging situations across the country.
5.) I’m impressed with how she has contributed in the short time she’s been in the community and think it’s a sign of what more she will do in the near future. 6.) She not only reviews the school budget but also reviews the count’s massive budget.
7.) Offers a fresh but grounded (and informed) approach to the operation of school board work.
Did Katie get you that commission slot, too?
Some people do the actual work and others complain about it from the sidelines with little insight to what’s actually going on. Some of the other candidates haven’t don’t half of what Cristina has done in the decades they they have lived here. Why is that? I go to many board meetings and the only two I ever see are Cristina and Symone our there pushing back. Where are the others? Not on commissions. Not at the PTA meetings. Not at the county meetings.
To the person who posted this last comment-- you need to get up to speed on what the other candidates are doing. The only one most parents haven't heard of is your pal Cristina, maybe because she's barely lived in Arlington. Sandy Munnell has been teaching in APS since August 1997 and heavily involved in the Civic Federation Schools Committee (including advocating for more bond funding to build school capacity-- something the ACDC has been loathe to support). Dave Priddy is PTA president of TJ Middle School. Terron and Symone have both been on various APS boards for years. Cristina has led nothing. Showing up for a once a month BAC or JFAC meeting does not qualify anyone for School Board. The fact that Katie Cristol gave her a spot on the JFAC is just one more indication of how much ACDC is corrupting Arlington. It is embarrassing to be a Democrat in this county sometimes.
I’m an APS teacher and I’m supporting BOTH Cristina and Symone. I know this thread may lead you to believe otherwise, but you can actually vote for TWO women of color. I think the combination of the two is just the right amount of healthy tension we need on the board.
OR you can actually vote for the candidates you think are best for the board, regardless of skin color.
They are the best fit for the school board. Our district is majority minority so why wouldn’t our leadership be reflective of that?

Did anyone else hear Sandy use the word ethnic? I was floored. Way out of touch when it comes to diversity/inclusion. That was enough for me to cross her off my list personally. Sorry, it’s a no for me!
