The second season really showed what happens when trauma isn't dealt with. Yes, cheer gave them a safe space and a family and filled a void they all had and it seemed that none of them have dealt with those huge issues of their childhood. Once that cheer structure is removed, it seems that a lot of them will have a really hard time moving on and being well adjusted adults.To me, the second season was incredibly sad.

Just finished the second season. It was definitely not as interesting or compelling as the first, which was to be expected. I feel like that cheerleading portion was maybe 30% of the show and the rest was confessional-style interviews.

Anyone else get a weird vibe from the assistant coach from TVCC? The relationship he has with his friends seems a little atypical. You let a single adult man move into your house and have immediate unfettered access to your five-year-old daughter? There him to be a lot of touching between the three adults also, so who knows?

FWIW, I went to community college and got an associates degree. I graduated five years after I graduated from high school. I wasn't a cheerleader (I don't even know if they had any sports at that college?) but I went to college part time. At first I worked two part time jobs and went to school part time, then I worked full time and went to school part time, then worked a full time job and a part time job and went to school part time. The largest class load I ever took was three classes in one semester, and it nearly killed me. To say I am not book smart is a vast understatement. If you haven't graduated yet and maintain your grades, why wouldn't the college let you be a part of a sports team? I don't think the CC has an obligation to "help these people transition to the next phase in their academic careers" because for some people, this is the LAST phase of their academic careers. I will never go to college again. I knew that back then. It's 22 years since I graduated and my stance has never changed.

I think so. The college is getting the tuition money and it seems like a lot of the cheerleaders are probably spreading a two year degree out over 3-4 years because they're coaching, doing All Star cheer, and now a bunch of paid endorsements.

I agree with a PP above that the show featured Jerry in a much more sympathetic way than he deserved. I suspect if he had been preying on 13 year old girls, the angle would have been a lot different.

I just watched the Jerry episode. All of the reactions from Monica and the rest of the team were pretty heartbreaking. I don’t blame any of them for being torn on whether or not to keep in contact with Jerry. It’s hard when it’s family and they’re all still in shock, so I get it. I bet many of them change their minds or make up their minds down the road.

I don’t love the way Netflix ended the episode. They featured Jerry as this sad story of a great kid who just went the wrong way. He’s a predator and they shouldn’t have given him the benefit of this little monologue at the end. They should’ve ended with the twins, their mom, or the lawyer. Jerry had too much of a voice in this IMO.

Parents filed a civil suit shortly before the criminal charges were filed. Victims have been interviewed on the news (without face blurred). Agree that it is odd that parents are ok with the publicity of their kids.

Only the last names were withheld, which I find odd.

The mother claims that the boys wanted to go public because they shouldn't have to hide as victims. Although what Jerry did/was accused of doing is horrific, I wonder how much of this was orchestrated by the fame-thirsty mother. It supposedly only happened with one boy who was "distraught" and shared it with his brother, but then the brother also began texting Jerry. Seems sketchy.

Either way, I am so incredibly disappointed in Jerry and know that he is getting his just desserts in that Cook County jail right now.

There’s an entire episode about the Jerry situation and its a very hard one to watch.

And while I’ll watch the entire season, it’s so much more obvious that Navarro is competing against ONE other teams that happens to be 40 minutes away, so the whole Daytona drama is ridiculous and seems like a waste.

Fly in some judges and compete at a neutral site between the 2 of you.
