Yes, huge. I know a student who entered UVA with a 6.0++ GPA because of the governor's schools courses she took from sophomore year on. She entered UVA with sufficient credits to enter as a second year student. She graduated UVA in three years and now is in a top law school

You need a back up plan. Daughter went to governors school but had plans to volunteer for those three weeks with the understanding she would have to volunteer later in the summer if accepted.

Is there any interim notifications in between submission and final acceptance? Trying to figure out a backup plan in the event that my DC doesn't get into Gov School?

Any student who has done it will be able to explain it to colleges unfamiliar with it. The colleges will understand what it is and why it's desirable.

DD listed it on her college apps with an explanation. But honestly I would be shocked if the regional admissions rep for Virginia is unfamiliar with Governor's School.

My son, currently a 10th grader in LoCo, applied for the 2024 summer program late last year (deadline was 12/8). I'm guessing we won't hear of any updates until early May judging by the discussions. The application process was a bit messy IMHO, as the school didn't fully communicate the process and there were some inconsistencies in the procedures, etc.

It’s an amazing experience-my DC went to the STEM program last year and loved it. Got into top 10 ED1-hope it helped but it was an amazing experience either way!

I am the previous poster. I forgot to mention that she found out she was accepted to Governors School in early May.

My daughter went to the ag school last year. She said it was a little disorganized but a good experience overall. I think it really helped with her college applications. She got in to all the schools she applied to.
