Yeah, I have to agree. OP, I’m sure you are a nice person, but your neighbor wanted a non confrontational way to get out of the “Boo’ing”. A sign saying “Please don’t Boo us” would just be a weird thing to put up. Maybe her kids have allergies and the candy is a pain. Maybe one of them is diabetic. Maybe they don’t celebrate Halloween. Maybe someone did boo them from a DIFFERENT street or neighborhood and your eagle eyes missed it. Maybe she thinks “Boo’ing” is stupid.
I’ll give you some advice, if you don’t mind. When you have neighbors that are “nice but a little standoffish”, take the hint gracefully. You have permission as a neighbor to open the door for a closer relationship in the first few interactions, but after a few aloof exchanges, give them their space.
