My guess is he wouldn't have entered a guilty plea if the evidence had been weak. My guess is more along the lines that he is scion of an old, well-connected Charleston family and had excellent lawyers.

So he wanted a bro-show. That would have gotten old fast. Even the current show is stale, but a show about womanizing "gentleman" wouldn't have made it past season 1.
Actually, that WAS Season Charm in Season 1. It was novel and a bit refreshing at the time because nearly every other Bravo show was female-focused. The regular cast in Season 1 consisted of Thomas, Shep, Whitney, and Craig. Cameran was there to narrate and interact a bit, and then there was that weird Jenna girl. The storylines were heavily focused on the guys. It was a streak of lightning they didn’t expect when Kathryn charged into the story and changed the direction of the show.
