OK with us. DC has created a system of neighborhood based schools and why shouldn’t Eaton, like other Ward 3 schools, be firmly anchored as a neighborhood school?

Eaton doesn't seem to be taking any OOB students in the lottery this year.

I think, wisely, they are waiting to see how the move impacts numbers before deciding what to do for this year. Given that schools typically have a much higher IB uptake rate post- renovation, filling slots now with OOB would result in an immediate overcrowding situation when the students return to the school in 2 years. That said, I am aware of 5 students so far in my oldest’s grade not returning this fall. Given the impact on funding, I’m not sure Eaton can afford to leave those spots open if new IB children don’t move into the grade this year.

Go back through the thread. A big change was 2018-19 was the first year that Eaton fed to Hardy. That's not in the above year stats - and then it will still be weighted with next year's stats where the IB #s are higher for 6th and the 7th and 8th will still have higher OOB proportionately. Around half of this past year's 6th grade were students from Eaton - and then a large # from Stoddert. And the feeder #s overall to 6th was around 90%.

Would agree 'flipping' is offensive - but it's a change of being a neighborhood and feeder pattern school vs. being a de factor charter - where places like Basis have emerged as charter options and DCPS then now also has to invest more in Stuart Hobson and Jefferson and other MS options also.

Principal Cooke is amazing - and I also like some PPs prefer that Hardy is a smaller school - around 1/3 the size of Deal - where the principals and teachers know the kids names and Cooke makes having kids know there are caring adults there for each kid a top priority. He is also committed to diversity and inclusion at the school.
