I have twins going in for PK3. Their lists are identical (like them):
1. DC Bilingual
2. EL Haynes
3. EW Stokes (Spanish)
4. ITS
5. Mundo Verde - 8th Street NE
6. Creative Minds
7 Bancroft OOB (hail Mary pass as we had fewer than 12)
8. Powell OOB (ditto)
9 EW Stokes (French
10. Capital City PSC
11. Truesdell (IB)
Your kids will both get "good enough" numbers, with the louder one pulling in their twin to Mundo 8th. You will smugly enjoy a good year as P Street goes to the hell with the double campus issue. You feel good enough about your DCI chance with having twins. You will lead a petition to buy out Scrilli to gain better playground space.

Swami, for first grade. PK3 sibling has a middling number. What do you think?
1 Mundo Verde P Street NW #9
2 Washington Yu Ying PCS #8
3 E.W. Stokes – Brookland (Spanish) #8
4 E.W. Stokes – Brookland (French) #6
Swami says your 1st grader will pull your sibling into 1, 3, and 4, and to ignore the "we can't guarantee the sibling" chatter.
Will enrolling my 1st grader elsewhere cause PK3 sib to lose her spot at our current mediumly-regarded charter school?
No.
Even if I enroll the older one before school starts?

We are IB at Ludlow Taylor for Prek3, number 6 on the waitlist.
I called the school and they said we are in "excellent" shape. But last year's waitlist numbers were brutal--no one let in in June, 2 or 3 in august, then 6 in October. But that year was a total outlier. What is going on? Do we have hope, Swami?

1. Stokes Spanish, #155
2. Stokes French, #88
3. ITS, #138
4. Lee Brookland, #104
5. DCB, #228
6. MV 8th, #140
Swami thanks you for this list and is surprised the StokesF list is "shorter" than the Lee list. Swami says post on the listserv and embed in the Brookland Burroughs community, but also don't be surprise when your MV8 list moves really really really close to doable. Keep a paper copy of your enrollment paperwork, because you might be surprised.
I'll check the wait lists in August but meanwhile start sourcing yellow polo shirts!Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Swami, for first grade. PK3 sibling has a middling number. What do you think?

The wait has killed me and I'm a ball of nervous energy. Please assuage my fears!!!
ITS
DC Bilingual
Powell (hail Mary)
Breakthrough Petworth
Breakthrough Takoma
Barnard
West (IB)
Sheperd (I know. I didn't have 12 and thought, why not but there is no chance in heck)
EL Haynes (we live rather close, so this would be nice only in terms of walking to school)
We will be perfectly happy at Breakthrough. They have wonderful guides and we have done Montessori before. The Tier 3 does not scare me. I know a school is bigger than a star rating or a Tier.
Please, Swami will we win?
Swami thinks Montessori is where its at this year with CHML swinging and Lee opening a second campus. Settle in at Breakthrough and lobby for a healthier school lunch.
