I'm seeing the story being walked back - now saying Trump only thought about firing him and the rest is up for question.

I'm reading now that Trump simply was thinking about firing him - seems the story's being backed up.

Did McGahn refuse to fire Mueller because he's some profile in courage, or was it because he'd be open to an obstruction of justice charge if he did?

What say Ben Sasse, McCain, Graham, Burr etc?

There's a bunch of stuff here https://www.mediamatters.org/research/2018/01/26/12-hours-fox-news-reaction-trump-wanting-fire-mueller-denial-confirmation-do-you-even-care/219182

But the best of it all is where Hannity is in full denial mode and proclaiming how "his sources in the White House" are not confirming that Trump tried to fire Mueller (as if "not confirming" is the same as "denying")

but then a few minutes later, it's "Well, okay, so he did try to have Mueller fired... but so what, uh, um, I guess we will deal with that later. Here, look at this video of a car chase and accident instead!"

She broke this story initially in June of 2017 but everyone shrugged their shoulders and ignored it.

Chris Ruddy went on PBS and confirmed Trump’s intentions to Judy Woodruff. Trump is a pathological liar.

It’s truly amazing the coordinated, calculated effort on the internet to discount these shoes that keep dropping and the inadvertent amplification by real Trump supporters of the Talking Points. Same Deny-Discredit-Deflect-Defend formula. Every topic.

There's a lot of yak-yak here (and in the media) about whether Trump is somehow shielded from indictment, either as a legal or a practical matter, and about how Mueller will proceed. No one knows for sure.

But it's crystal clear that there are lots surrounding people who also played a role in these activities, who took actions on behalf of Trump, and who likely committed crimes: Don Jr, Jared, Sessions, Kelly, and plenty of lower level people whose names we rarely hear. Those people are all subject to indictment, and they've got no argument that they're protected from indictment by the inherent constitutional powers of the Presidency.

We all assume Mueller's prime target is Trump. But Trump might be just another unindicted co-conspirator named in the indictments of all the other people who are working around him. In the Watergate scandal, we all remember that Nixon resigned to avoid impeachment. But it's important to also remember that FORTY other government officials were indicted and/or jailed as a result of Watergate.

Maybe Trump will go down, or maybe he'll somehow wriggle his way out of this mess. But there are dozens of other people around him who are in serious legal jeopardy.
