Yield is percentage of accepted students who come to the school. All schools want yeses ASAP, so jump gun. No incentive to tell people "no" early, hence WL that may not be realistic.

I seriously doubt that GDS intentionally lied. I do believe that there must have been a major miscommunication between between the desk and the ADs, which seems to have been corrected at some point in the early afternoon.
GDS was not even a school to which we applied, but after reading the various posts on this topic, my guess is that technically GDS did not inform anyone via email, which is why the receptionist responded as she did; however, to accepted families, GDS sent an email with the contract attached thus a de facto acceptance letter. If I am right, they are disorganized for sure, but without bad intent.
