I'm not angry and annoyed that the PP is using Grandma's silver. I'm just annoyed at the other PPs who insist that I need to use silver. I don't have any silver from Grandma, and I don't plan on getting any of my own, because I have other priorities. If you don't like my priorities, don't come to my Thanksgiving dinner.
In 14 pages, who insisted that anyone needed to use sterling silver?

Not where. When. I'm guessing PP was either gifted or inherited all that flatware.
We stopped using the silver the year my FIL threw two forks and a knife in the trash while clearing plates. Not fun digging through garbage cans on a full stomach.
I won't be able to sleep tonight until you tell me that you successfully retrieved all the silver pieces.
We did. Boxed it up and shoved it under the bed. Now we use silverplate and disposable plates. And we have a great holiday.

I did, a few pages ago! I think I'm going to buy cheap IKEA plates but use disposable for the kids and for dessert.
OP, I'm one of the 'you must use real plates on thanksgiving" posters and I think your approach is a perfect compromise. On behalf if your adult guests who will be cutting their meat on a real plate, I thank you!

Excellent condition complete sets to serve 12 on eBay sell for under 5k regularly. If you prefer to buy new you can get 4-5 piece place settings for under $500, depending on manufacturer, weight, size (dinner or place) and complexity of pattern.
We're talking about Thanksgiving for 25. A set of 12 doesn't help me.
