The whole thing is really maddening. I can't believe they are so content with the status quo - the expectations for quality of life and education in south Arlington... It's unbelievable.
It's like - oh well... We've made a place for a bunch of poor kids. Our job is done!
I would take is as a sign to move to the north or somewhere else.
Don't you think we would have bought north of 50 if we could have? I know there is some really bitter feelings about people buying nice new construction in the south side at a ( slight )discount...
However it's mainly younger families who have bought, small, older homes, in a price range ( probably a stretch for them) just under what would get them further north. South Arlington is the last place you can maybe find a starter home. Although, those days are really numbered. My friends and colleagues are priced out of south Arlington now as well.
There is a big difference between 550 and 750 in this county when it comes to location.
Doesn't excuse the bullshit the county board is trying to pull.
Pushing schools to 80% poverty rates? That's crazy. And if I lived north I'd be annoyed also. If property taxes dip around the pike- who do you think is picking up the slack? All the odd zip codes. They are addicted to the revenue. Once they've made s. Arl an unfriendly place to younger middle class families due to poorly rated schools - they'll just bleed you guys dry.
Whatever - there is always private school. Bright side is if my house value declines it will free up some money toward that.
Yeah, because there's clearly nothing else on the planet but North Arlington and South Arlington. Cry me a boulevard.
With a shitty commute. Fuck off.
Right back at you. Boo boo, what a whiny bunch of self-entitled jerks.
Don't you have some thread about Ashburn to return to?
No, it's more enlightening to watch jerks in Arlington cannibalize each other.

Vote for McMenamin. Just read arlnow.com latest board article.
He's the only one with over-crowded schools as his platform ...and how we've lost so much commercial real estate---Marriott the latest to leave.
The other 3 dummies are still running On The tired platform of 'affordable housing' which will just make school problem even worse!!!
Can you link the article you are referring to?
Here is go!
Thank you! My blood pressure just went up, reading this article, and the candidates' quotes. I cannot bear their whining, that there is not enough money for the schools, they can't build the school additions we need, no underground parking possible, because it's too expensive, etc. etc. but they want to spend $90 million dollars EACH year from here on out to house low income cab drivers and construction workers (largest professions benefitting according to a previous arl.now article) - in Arlington, because they MUST live in this very small, very expensive county. This is just 90 million for housing, I bet that figure does not yet include all the other services the county will then pay for them; free preschool, more foreign language interpreters at every meeting that they don't even attend...
It is insane!
Anyone against the affordable housing master plan has my vote.

did they install metro or a street car in south arlington
There is plenty of metro access in Crystal City/Pentagon City area and the non-street car options for Columbia Pike are actually realistic (BRT for instance which gives the benefits of streetcar without having nearly the total cost and a higher federal cost share possible). South Arlington has many great communities with great commutes. The county needs to give equal consideration both for the near and long term and invest in strong school options. I also agree that affordable housing should be spread throughout the county not just concentrated where people make the least fuss.
