We are now parents to two daughters! The one I was posting here about is Champagne Glitz. I was not kidding about the name. Her older sister also has a stripper name but almost immediately DH found a tweak to it and we will aim to work towards modifying her name to the nickname if she's amenable.
Please know that even though it took me quite some time to update you all, DH and I both read through all your responses and appreciate the time each of you took to weigh in with your opinions.
So, within the last month you found out the sister exists and adopted her? Because usually there's a six month waiting period, and during that waiting period you almost definitely don't have permission to post a child's name online.
Unless she was already in the system in another county or the parents voluntarily relinquished rights. Don't be such a curmudgeon
No, there's a six month waiting period after the child is placed in your home. Even a child who is already free, or to whom you already have a connection.
Either the OP is lying, or the OP doesn't care a whit about these kids, to use their uncommon and identifiable names in this setting. Or she's a troll. I hope that's what's true.

I'd see it as a shortcut to Nell, which is sweet and old fashioned (and a nickname for Helen). Chanel just sounds aspirational, like someone wanted to sound rich. Cf Diamond, Tiffany, Crystal, etc.Anonymous wrote:Why is Nelly better than Chanel?

Upon hearing your daughter's birth name, I am totally convinced that yes, you have to change it. Charlotte, Charlene or Charlize (ie Theron) could all work with Grace or another middle name and are lovely. I actually think your other daughter's name, Chanel is okay to keep even in a professional capacity, and I'm pretty waspy. Maybe you want to change both girls' names. I don't know how old they are, but you could share with them some of your family names and let them know you want to give them these names as a special gift since they are now members of a new family. Good luck!
They are 4 and 6. We will not be re-naming Champagne to Charlene or Charmaine. Dh and I don't feel like we have to do the same things for each girl. Chanel is an okay name; it just lends itself to Nelly quite easily. Champagne is a hard name to go through, but doesn't lend itself to anything other than Pagne which has a negative association on multiple levels. I'm a little all over the place with this - we're operating on very little sleep and a ton of screaming.
