Maybe you should check prices in Old Town before saying something so idiotic. Those gorgeous historic row houses aren't cheap.

I lived in Reston for 8 years - loved it there! We sadly couldn't afford a SFH there, though. Would LOVE to have one of those gorgeous homes on the Lakes!

I grew up in Bethesda, lived in DC for many years, McLean for 3, and now live in Reston. Reston is by FAR my favorite place that I've lived. The people are SO nice, the area is beautiful, and it's easy to get to downtown off hours. I love it so much that if we ever won the lottery, we wouldn't move to Georgetown like I had always envisioned- instead, we'd get a house lakeside in Reston! Thankfully, most of the mean posters on this board would never dream of moving out "so far".

The old homes are cookie cutter anywhere in this area, unfortunately. At least the new houses seem to be built individually (in the wealthy areas) - so they are all indeed different.

But to have a driveway that is nicer than my house? I see that with some older homes - THAT would depress me!

I don't believe there are many cookie cutter McMansions in McLean. There may be some remaining cookie cutter ramblers, however.

Look, you guys that choose not to live in McLean can justify your decision however you want, it doesn't change the fact that McLean is a very desirable neighborhood in the area, offering great schools, big homes, big lots, and convenient access to some of the best mall shopping in the area - again mall shopping may not be your cup of tea, but it is for many people.

Permission granted. We love McLean and there are plenty of dogs in our neighborhood already.

Where are you (neighborhood) that the neighbors are nice? There are plenty of places that are nice on paper - but if you were to read the neighborhood listserv, or actually know anyone first hand who lives there, you might find out differently. I am sure there are some nice parts of McLean, probably not so many in Langley. After all, the lots are not as big as, for example, Great Falls - where you would only know your neighbors if you wanted to. The lots are perhaps big as compared with D.C. or Arlington, however - if that is what you are comparing?
