Some of these are cheesey, but they've been known to make me cry nonetheless.

-I think it's pretty insulting to many Africans, who, while they may be poor, DO know what Christmas is.

Since it was written about the Ethiopian famine in the 80's, they may not know that it is Christmas. And if they do it doesn't matter. Not do they know what Christmas IS, do they know that it's that time of the year in many parts of the world. The time of year when people are eating way too much food and buying a lot of gifts, when the Ethiopians were starving to death.

You know what is really sad too? Not sure if it was mentioned and I missed it but 'Today Was a Good Day' Ice Cube. I mean granted when you listen to it, its not sad in a lot of the lyrics but the idea that living a day without being shot at is a good day was a seriously eye opening commentary for many.

This song kills me. She sings about her dying mother, and it so captures for me how I felt when my mom was in hospice care.

Also, I Try (Macy Gray). After fighting liver cancer, my friend picked this to be played at her own funeral when she died at 23. Hearing that song still breaks my heart.
