Exactly.
I can also be friends with pretty much anyone - even Republicans! - but I find it challenging to hang out with the following:
- people who talk about themselves for 5 hours straight
- the same people who can't shut up, go on and on about things they ask for your advice about changing, but never do
- people who aren't active. I can't go out for a 2-hr dinner then sit in front of the TV. I mean I CAN, but it's hard.
- people who are on their smart phones when we are at dinner. Um, no.
- people who only according to their ad hoc schedule because work comes first and they can't 'commit' to meeting at a certain time. I see you once every 3 months, why can't you leave by 7pm for ONE night?
- people who give up their own identity and lives because they let their spouses do what they want, and they pick up the slack in terms of childcare and running the home. Oh, Johnny can train for a marathon, play a team sport, and work late a lot, but we have to plan months in advance for a day to get together because of HIS schedule?
- people who judge my parenting or make statements like 'MY toddler will NEVER act out in a restaurant' when they DON'T HAVE KIDS (or, they have one very easy kid)
