Who else was bemoaning the "fact" that people in DC are mean? And I'm frankly confused at why you think the people responding to you don't have what you have. You've said you are attractive, smart, educated, relatively wealthy. I would venture a guess that those traits are shared by many on this board and in DC in general. You're in a relatively wealthy educated area...

OP, you have repeated referred to your privilege and all that you have and possess. You wrongly assume that the posters who oppose you are jealous because we do not have said privileges. I can whole-heartedly state that you most like do not have my wealth or privilege (few do) and thus, I am not jealous of anything you my possess or hold dear. Your narcissism and need to constantly refer to all of your "privilege" shows a deep rooted insecurity and a need to constantly prove to others why you are better or have a better life. No wonder your sister you have a bad relationship with your sister. Anyone who possesses your level of narcissism and grandiose self-importance is bound to have difficulty with personal relationships. It is really very sad and I feel immensely sorry for you.

OP - honestly I've read this whole tread and I think most of the posters at least started out trying to be helpful. Sure there are a few people (or maybe all the same person?) who are being jerks, but how do you intelligently extrapolate a few obnoxious posts on an Internet relationship chat site that, although it has DC in the title, is also frequented by many who are not area residents and even so, represent a minuscule fraction of the residents of even this area. I have lived in DC a number of years along with a number of other cities and have never experienced DC being more rude than anywhere else. If you are experiencing rudeness as a rule in your "real" life, I suggest taking a look at changing the places at which you are hanging out, the social circles you seek out, your job, or perhaps your own personality as well.

Or it might stem from the fact that she's truly hurt and bothered by it. If OP is still in the throes of this war with her sister (and it sounds like she is) she's probably feeling the need to vent. I will agree that some of her posts have been a little outrageous, but in general I understand where she's coming from. It hurts to be around people like her sister. At the end of the day she probably wishes they were close and that this BS would end. At least I know I would if I were the OP.

All of you bashing OP should be ashamed. She is the sister of a narcisist. She has had to start acting this way in order to remove the toxic person from her life. If this means ignoring her at family functions then, that is what she has to do. I agree that she should not put her mother in the middle, but sometimes you have to keep some distance from the nasty person. My SIL is the same way with my DH. Extremely jealous and just plain mean. We had to stop telling her everything. She did not find out I was pg until I was 8 months along. She would have made my life miserable if I had told her sooner. She came the baby shower for my first child and sat in a corner and sulked. She ruined every important occasion in my life up until the time I cut her off. Unless you have dealt with someone like this, you have absolutely no idea how you would act. I go to many family functions, and just act like my SIL is not there. If I was to speak to her, the passive aggresive behavior, the lying, the jealousy would start all over again. She is fit to be tied right now because she does not know what is going on in our life. This is the ONLY way to deal with someon like this.


This apparently runs in the family. Yikes.
