This is not picking a fight. This is actually doing his job to keep students and schools a safe place to learn. I wouldn't mix this issue with the boundary/closing issue. They are not remotely alike.
How is it not picking a fight when Kristin clearly says she felt targeted by Taylor’s letter, and was disappointed and taken aback by it? She also vowed to keep doing the Know Your Rights sessions and showing up at schools. So she and Taylor are in open conflict now.
This is literally a fight now between 1 of 3 people on the E&C Committee, who decide how much to fund MCPS, and Dr. Taylor.
Dr. Taylor would have been much better off having a direct meeting with Mink and her team about his concerns rather than doing a general, passive aggressive letter attacking her and then having your PIO deny it was directed at her in the first place, as if she and the rest of the public are too dumb to see that he’s lying.
Is it "picking a fight" any time anybody does something that somebody else doesn't like? Maybe she "picked a fight" with him by giving operational advice to MCPS employees?
That letter was professional and cordial. It didn't "attack" anybody. Did you even read the letter?

This is such a silly phrase in this context.
What he said, and what he most likely meant, was that her taking a public stance does not change his position. Nor should it.
That being said, Kagan will burn your house down (euphemistically of course) if you cross her. He has made a serious enemy for life.

Certainly, many people could argue closing Wootton is the correct and fiscally responsible thing to do and he is brave to propose that. Maybe he is, I think it is a complicated choice and a difficult situation.
But there are many examples of him proposing the wrong thing. Like setting up dozens new programs in high schools without adequate support and at the same time dismantling existing structures that have been built up over decades. With no real effort to gather community input (all they have done is push information out to the community and they haven't set up a way to gather or report out community feedback).
Ignoring the community is not a good way to make decisions. MCPS central staff pushing out decisions that aren't informed by community members or school staff means decisions that are disconnected from communities and their needs.

+1 now add on the new math changes and the new MS social studies curriculum rollout. MCPS has difficulty even with the basics (staff background checks, paying summer school staff, not making illegal contracts for EV busses that don't work)

The new math plan of dumbing down math and speeding it up is the worst ever. They need to go back to basics with teaching things like math facts and a good foundation and using textbooks, not just making them optional. Have a clear curriculum across that every teacher uses and have additional supports like the virtual tutoring for kids struggling. Taking out geometry makes zero sense.

MCPS definition of "using data" is basically following every rule about "manipulating data".

I do know that TT did listen to the parent survey about boundary studies. The MCPS CO was on serious drugs in the original Options A-D. The boundaries were heavily gerrymandered and it's clear someone was catering to a friends-and-family program.
I remember when MCPS put out "oh, parents want to prioritize demographics over proximity". This last survey proved overwhelmingly (90%?) it was false.
With the virtual school, they refused to release the specific data with test scores and performance just saying virtual was bad. They also aren't releasing any data on what students and families actually what at their schools and putting academies where there will be no interest or they had them aready and they were stopped due to lack of interest.
