Pure projection. I would bet you don't even have kids in any of the schools discussed here. Most families simply care about academic reputation of the high school they would end up in. Equity argument is being used since BOE used it to explain their boundary thinking and then somehow ended up with the recommendation that is less equitable than the least equitable option being discussed.


Equity and balancing schools didn't end up being an important part of the boundary recommendations. Y'all fought against that and won. This is what you get when you tell MCPS that families don't care about equity and demographics.

Nah, BOE should listen to all stakeholder, but not turn it into popularity contest. That's a horrible way to make any decision which will last in our region for decades.

BOE should hear the reasoning. Communities should provide reasons. That's the way decisions should be made.

real diversity is a minority-majority school. that's what make kennedy, wheaton and future woodward so great. farmland families should try to scratch and claw into WJ if they miss it so much.

Emphasis on minor. I would call what Farmland suggests, a musical chairs between WW, VM, GP and others, as major, and inconsistent with FAA policies.


+1 This clearly isn't minor. They want a major change too late in the game that affects real families, like mine in VM.

Woodward recommendation 35% for Woodward, 13% for WJ.
Farmland agitator recommendation strives woodward about 30% for Woodward, and 26% for WJ.

Moving from a 35% Woodward to a 26% WJ isn't worth it.


22% FARMS difference between WJ and Woodward should be narrowed because schools are close to each other on the same road.

4% FARMS difference between WJ and Woodward is far better situation.

It may not make difference to you personally, but it's best to balance it.

Yes I can understand that GP wants to attend WJ but that can't be the basis to take any decision. i personally don't care what Farmland wants or GP wants. All communiteis are simply advocating whatever they think is best for them. BOE does not need to listen to whatver is best for one single community. BOE should make decision which is best for larger number of kids. This decision will last for decades.

BOE should certainly listen to why communities like something or dislike it but it's not a polularity contest. And the FAA policies are in favor of WW and VM being at Woodward together, as opposed to split up at WJ, or being retained at Wheaton.


WW and VM both are going to change schools. Once change happens boundary needs to be stable.

That will be the case and it will satisfy FAA policies.

Being retained in Wheaton is not an option.

I do have skin in the games with 3 kids affected in various ways by this study.

I prefer Superintendent recommendation. I rent in what will be new Woodward (current WJ). My smartest kid can go to WJ with the magnet that the Superintendent has in mind. It'll be the academic rigorous school. Woodward will never be academically rigorous and shifting 10% farms won't make it so....with fashion design and video game focus. Maybe you all should focus on changing the silly arts magnet rather than worrying about your property values.


Actually, many of us do. Art magnet is a horrible choice for a new school, but that is a separate fight. Your strategy to send kid to the humanities magnet may not be feasible if every single parent from the weak Woodward has the same idea, which is another reason to advocate for a more balanced boundary.
