I assume you missed that most districts across Maryland are also closed because ice is notoriously difficult to remove. But sure, it’s probably a coordinated anti-parent agenda.

Are you insane? Even Sunday and Monday hospitals and doctors offices were open. Because the world doesn’t stop because it snows.
Even my kids’ tae kwon do and gymnastics studio were open and teaching today. Because those people don’t get paid unless they work unlike McPS staff.
Exactly. That's what I'm saying. Shut down the hospitals and clinics until they force MCPS to stop hating working parents.
How would that work? Do you think the world revolves around MCPS?
If you're a parent it does. It turns out, some parents are workers. I know that's a foreign concept to Taylor and the MoCo elite.
Working parents should call out. Shut things down. I'm sure the rich folks in Bethesda would love prepping for a colonoscopy only to have it cancelled at the last minute because they don't have the staff.
Things would change quickly.

All good until the plows came back through this afternoon and left a huge pile of ice blocking me in. I would not be able to get in tomorrow until I could unblock myself and I don't know when that will be. Multiply this across the county- you know you need teachers to teach...or babysit, add in busses that can't get through, parking lots that are still ice rinks and it is obvioulsy the right choice. Doctor's offices and private companies can of course open as they are not in charge of over 100,000 students.

My two ES kids are at home bugging me and screaming while I work from home. The only thing to shut them down is unlimited screentime and one kid do not take screentime (not sure if it is blessing) keep bugging me. Our school childcare is out. Any suggestions what to do with them the next 2 days at least?
1. Read
2. Write a journal entry about the perfect snow day or about what you read
3. Write up some math problems for your kids to solve. Have them explain to you how they solved each problem
4. Solve a math problem and have your kid tell you weather you solved it correctly or not. If it’s wrong…they need to teach the correct method
It depends on age but it’s not hard to google activities.

The University of Maryland is also closed tomorrow. So are Georgetown and Catholic and American and UMBC. We don’t need to make this about MCPS failures.
Also literally every other school system in the area including DCPS. I have no idea why MCPS is under such attack here. The whole region is in the same boat.

Many streets haven't even see a plow, too cold to move snow and I bet many teachers are bonding out yet. Many school lots (from friends pictures) are not clean either.
Many lots are cleared and they could let the child care providers decide if they could open in those cases but MCPS doesn't care
This. Super frustrating for parents who need daycare to force KAH (and other providers) to close down.
You do understand that one reason the schools continue to be closed is that the lots have not been plowed, right? It’s not snow at this point. It’s solid ice that weighs as much as concrete.
Childcare staff and parents would be in the way of the people trying to clear the lots. I can’t get off my street yet, so it’s likely others (childcare providers) are in a similar situation. It is what it is.
Do you think we're idiots? The schools with unplowed lots should not be open and of course would not be open if MCPS lifted the "all childcare must stay closed" bam. Likewise, the childcare programs who don't have enough staff who can safely travel to work at them should not and would not be open. No one is asking for any of that. We are just saying that the programs at schools where the lots *are*, clear and staff *can* get to work should be allowed to open, at least on Thursday.
(And to be clear, our school is one of the ones that's unplowed so ours would be closed regardless and that's fine! But I don't want other working parents to struggle just because I am. And I want to go back to the days where MCPS at least pretended to trust their on-site providers to make their own decisions, and to care about the working parents and child care workers who lose out when they don't.)
+1 we've explained all this many times but some folks here have their own narrative they want to promote so they can have a free day off work
Yes, everyone is aware parents are stressed. The ice, unfortunately, remains unmoved.

FCPS and LCPS and HCPSS and HCPS are all closed too. But somehow if MCPS closes we get whiners.
My kids are glad to have the days off and enjoying sledding with friends.
