I think part of the chaos and increased quotas is Trump wanting to beat deportation king Obama. He still has not caught up. Obama deported 3 million people from 2009-2016. Many of the things Trump is excoriated for (cages for kids, Muslim ban) actually started under Obama.

And yes, in 2014, Obama used chain link fences to separate unaccompanied[i] minors for their safety. However, that’s totally different from 2018, Jeff sessions ordering border patrol agents to forcefully separate accompanied babies and children from their parents and placing them in kennels. The devil is in the details.

Border crossing isn’t the only thing down. People aren’t flying in either. Fewer people want to come to the USA legally or not. Out of 185 countries, the auSA is the only country that had a decline in tourism. We lost 12.5 billion dollars in 2025 tourism dollars. Basically people are going elsewhere, legal and illegal.
