-civil rights for all americans including those in the LGBTQ+ communities

3) Gavin's wife is an asset and a liability. Tragically, she was raped by Harvey Weinstein, but then suffered some kind of Stockholm Syndrome and stayed in touch with him afterwards, asking for political advice. She's a victim and deserves sympathy, but purely from the political image standpoint, it's not ideal. Any association with Weinstein will play as kind of seedy and somehow quintessentially Californian.

Gavin is famous and good-looking, but his track record is a problem. First of all, it's bad. And second of all, it's bad in a way that opponents will use to discredit Democrats. People have often looked to California as "where the future happens first." And a lot of Americans will say no thank you to that. From forest fires to school closures, to homelessness, to crime, to illegal immigration, California will be portrayed as "where Democrats want to take the whole country," and that's a problem.

I wonder if Gavin could be a VP candidate to a female Presidential candidate? That would let us take advantage of his good traits, while maybe taking the California track record off of center stage. It'll be like, look, Dems have good looking, charming, looks the part candidates, but don't worry about California, the key policies will be set by the Prez who is from Arizona or wherever.

Your analysis that he just won because of weak Democrats is not supported by the numbers. (And, by the way, those weak Democrats in 2020 and 2024 also got more votes by far than any Democrats ever. Also because of Trump.)

Dismissing Trump's performances in 2016 and 2020 as outliers that we didn't need to reckon with is the reason he won again in 2024. And dismissing his 2024 victory as an outlier is making the same mistake that has already burned us. We need to stop telling people why they voted for him ("You're stupid and you made a mistake") and start ASKING people why they voted for him.

The distribution of wealth and power has become too uneven and the strain of it has society at a breaking point - something’s got to give. The last time there was this much tension between the haves and the have nots, desperate people turned for any solution that offered relief, which led to the rise of both fascist and communist regimes. While they’re typically viewed as opposite poles of the political spectrum, they’re actually just different names for tyranny. Whatever ideology the leaders claimed to seize power, the goal was always power. Once any party had secured their power, the ideology was consigned to window dressing for the government, which was no more interested in the general welfare than the government they had replaced. Right now, the right is already at that place, offering the country dictatorship over a democracy that has been failing the populace. Democrats must be vigilant to remember that the counter to a right wing dictatorship is not a left wing dictatorship, but rather a free country SERVING the will of the people.

I realize Democrats want to remake society into their version of Utopia, and if they can reclaim power and hold unto it, they’ll be able to advance whatever agenda they want. However, people are struggling and need to be given some hope that things can improve for them. Stop dividing voters, and above all, stop alienating them. Who cares if they disagree with you on an issue, as long as they vote to put you in power to do what you want? If they’re considering violating some of their principles (which are as dear to them as yours are to you), you don’t have to insult them. Sometimes I think the Democrats would rather feel smugly superior to voters who voted against them than to win the votes of some who might have incorrect opinions.

The overwhelming majority of Americans support the democrats agenda:
-more jobs
-growing GDP
-international alliances that grow business and opportunity
-capitalism with guardrails that protect clean air, clean water, safe foods and worker exploitation
-affordable healthcare
-sensible gun laws that prevent the mentally ill from owning weapons and limit weapons that have no other purpose but to slaughter humans
-sensible abortion rules that protect life when viable and also protect women's health
- support Ukraine against Russian aggression
-support Taiwan but grow economic interests with China
-civil rights for all americans including those in the LGBTQ+ communities

I could go on, but these are all core democratic platform items and they all poll with 65%+ across all American democgraphics.

The half this list at least isn’t distinguishable from the GOP.

Actually, no it isn't. At least not in practice, but then again, the GOP is great at gaslighting and lying.

Trump was a viable presidential candidate in 2016. He was a complete joke of a major party nominee in 2020 and 2024. The reason Trump won in 2016 was mainly due to blowback on Obama. Obama blew a historic opportunity to unite this country racially and ended up doing the opposite. Obama deserves the moniker "The Great Divider". Also Obamacare and his other domestic policies were terrible. He thought 1.5% GDP growth that the new normal. Nope. Weaponizing the DoJ and IRS didn't help. And he was very weak in foreign policy. Remember the line in the sand with Syria and also Putin took Crimea while Obama was in office. And finally, no one liked Hilary Clinton (and they still don't).

Obamacare is popular and would be more successful if the GOP supported its own healthcare solution, the ACA.
1.5% GDP growth was pretty darned good given what Bush left him to clean up. And it was a far cry better than what Trump left in 2021.

Obama didn't surrender Afghanistan to the Taliban - trump did that.
Should he have been tougher with Putin? Absolutely, but at least he didn't bow down to him and hand the rest of Ukraine over to Putin like Trump is currently doing.
