My 8th grader telling me that the snow falling will make for dangerous conditions for the ES kids, they should cancel the day out of safety. It made me laugh, he leaves for the bus in 10 minutes.

Tip from a former Seattle resident (the whole city is big hills): when snow is in the forecast, drive your car to the top (or bottom) of the big hill the night before, and park it there overnight. You can walk the hill if you have good shoes, then all of your driving is on flat ground.

I agree with you, but hope the PP is right. I have lived here for a long time and I think the call was very iffy. People here can’t drive regularly much less in the snow. The thing FCPS has going for them is that it is a Friday and many people don’t work Fridays or work from home. I bet they are the ones excited their kids will be out of the house for part of the day.

There's clearly been enough turnover at Gatehouse that they've collectively forgotten the #CloseFCPS fiasco of 2015! This is not the FCPS that closed for anything like a few years ago.


The #CloseFCPS “fiasco” involved busses getting stuck for long periods of time (with students in them), accidents everywhere, and some really treacherous drives. It was a really bad decision to open that day, which FCPS admitted, and caused them to be more cautious with future weather events. Not a lesson that I would like the current group at Gatehouse to have to relearn.

CWG has the snow moving out by lunch time. A closure with this small amount of snow (I can still see the grass and it’s not exactly piling up on the street either) would have been overkill. A 2 hour delay allows for much of the morning rush to be over by the time kids are getting on the buses, which is helpful for everyone - both kids on buses and morning commuters in cars.

The kids aren’t on the bus yet to have this be an issue.

Yes, they are. My middle schooler just went to the bus stop.
