It’s really not. If you find it so, that reflects you. It’s ok if a school is just a bad fit for your kid and family.

No school in this area that is in stable financial footing is a dumpster fire.

DP, but I assume it’s a general detention requirement that you write a letter addressing your infraction, which is fine for many behaviors that result in detention, but when applied to dress code violations becomes ridiculous, and should definitely be rethought.

Ideally it would have been rethought well before they did this to many girls.

I have given up on the school. The lack of leadership on this issue is astonishing. I happen to know parents who did recently bring this issue to Kirsten Adams and she said she didn’t care and she didn’t think any of the things discussed here were a problem, or were harmful to girls. C’est la vie. We are making a change asap.

Many have tried over the years to bring these things to the admin and they just don't care.

wtf?

Seriously this admin takes their families for granted.

They will listen and take the call but nothing ever changes.

This. For years on a variety of issues unrelated to this string of posts.

US parent here. I get the sense the emphasis on Christianity isn't a shift to the right but a response to the current Administration's attempts to co-opt Christianity.

My kid saw right through the speaker for that reason—he was talking about being saved without doing good works or living real Christian values.

+1. This is the problem. As the only true game in town for Alexandria, they have a captive audience and can get away with garbage like this and they know families will stick around anyway. It's absurd. We left anyway and don't regret it at all.

We were really hoping to stay through high school but to be honest, I feel like the school is shifting to the right politically (or maybe is more conservative in the upper grades?) and it’s not what we are interested in. I also feel like the lower school seemed like an Episcopal school (chapel and religion but more about faith and meaning in general) and now I’m hearing the head of the upper school talking so much more just about Christianity. And while we are Christian, I really liked that my kid learned about other faiths in the younger grades and now it feels like it’s a “Christian” school rather than an “Episcopal” school (which I feel like typically try to educate kids of all religions).

the school should focus less on politics and other BS and just get the kids prepared for and accepted to college. Period. I am so sick of all this stuff. For the fortune we're paying, just get them into college

SSSAS is moving left and most people are happy with that.

ROTFL. It’s hard to take all her preachiness seriously about politics and hard left when she’s rich, drives a Tesla (Elon who) and claims oops she still shops at Target (but says we shouldn’t.

Also, SSSAS isn’t moving left. Do you even have kids there?

Yup she’s very honest. She didn’t need to tell you she still has a Tesla and she didn’t need to tell you she shops at target. But she did. Because she’s honest. She’s not perfect an s that’s a lot of her charm and relatability.
And yes I have kids at sssas and it’s not considered conservative anymore. And it previously was.
You don’t have to watch her if you don’t like her. It’s optional.

Bless your heart. I wish the school was more liberal, especially the US. Ask someone what was discussed during Shrinemont last weekend. So progressive! You are so naive.

I’ll bite… what was discussed at Shrinemont?

Also curious about this. PP, do you mean at the senior retreat?

DC is a junior and while I certainly wouldn’t describe the school as far-left, I don’t think it’s conservative. Seems quietly liberal.

the school is in no way conservative. At Shrinemont the boys and girls were separated. The boys played basketball and flag football. The girls had to do a deep dive with a therapist and I think the outcome was that everyone is racist.

PP those were 3 separate thoughts that I replied to as I was reading all of the previoius texts. The school's liberal leaning is separate from what went on during the senior trip

I know politics and polarization have made everything harder and I don't want a school to have to be political, but it does have to have values and purpose. How are there parents who are surprised no statement was made about Charlie Kirk when the schools are covered with rainbow symbols and Charlie Kirk was full of judgement and hate? How can a school with rainbow symbols everywhere have a culture that is so unwelcoming to trans or nonbinary kids? The stories shared at Shrinemont - how can the admin just ignore ignore ignore and still claim to value each child as a child of god?

It's absurd! I cannot believe I've spent nearly $1m on this school for two kids. the one chapel speaker (an alum) who the kids said was the best speaker the school ever had, spoke about his experience going down a bad path and then turned his life around through christianity. The teaches and admin were furious and sent the kids a message saying they did't endorse the speakers views. The views of Christianity at a supposedly Christian school. Its such a joke and most kids can see right through it.

My kid thought that speaker was terrible. He talked about how he cheated all through his time at SSSAS and after, and was never caught. He talked about how he was getting away with being a terrible person, but because he found god, he confessed and now is a good person.

He had been asked repeatedly to submit his speech in advance (which is typically done) and evaded it every time, so admin and teachers were blindsided by his message of cheating with no consequence throughout SSSAS. Of course they were angry about that.
