I toured with my daughter (junior at a very rigorous New England prep school), who’s a high-achiever academically and interested in double-majoring in math and history. Davidson has been on her list for a while due to its strong academic reputation and supportive community. Unfortunately, the visit left both of us feeling underwhelmed. The campus felt underwhelming and outdated, and the surrounding town lacked the vibrancy and intellectual energy she’s looking for. While Davidson may suit students seeking a quiet, sports-knit community, it just didn’t click for us. We were also concerned by the prominence of Patterson Court and Greek life, which seemed at odds with the academic culture she’s hoping for. Online several students mentioned difficulty getting into upper-level courses, especially in math. Ultimately, the outcomes didn’t seem to justify the cost compared to strong in-state options we have in Maryland. Any families have a similar experience? We've only heard the "pros" on this site and think we need to open this discourse!
Not for your kid. We get it. Move on.
You commented on a dead thread to tell us nonsense that doesn't drive any conversation. Triggered much?

Everyone was very nice, but the tour guide gave very generic answers to most questions including why he chose Davidson. I know many people love the school, but the tour was underwhelming.
I caution folks not to draw too many conclusions from student-led tours.
This!!
Horrible tours at Northwestern, Vanderbilt and Cornell.
Generic and boring. Lacked energy and sense of space.

Good for you. Fewer folks touring and not applying gives more chance to other kids to get in.

Both OP's and your posts lack "intellectual energy."![]()

Construction or renovation? Seems like a very old building.
Renovation. The building now looks like this https://amherststudent.com/article/lyceum-offers-new-classrooms-offices-common-spaces/
How ugly.
That is a terrible "blend" of modern and classic NE architecture!
+1 Evidrntly, with a $3.5 billion endowment, they lack the funds or admin intellect to select and hire a skilled architecture firm.
Because this is so unique, not like their peers have the same style:

All hideous.
These are beautiful buildings. What’s your preferred style? Drab and worn?
Beauty is in the eye of the brholder. Putting a mishmash of glass and metal buildings on an old campus is not attractive. They don't have a common element or share a connection to the older buildings. It looks like Legoland.
Heavily disagree. The first one is of Pomona and if you look at the actual full layout, it resembles much of the layout of their other structures and has that Southern California look with the landscaping surrounding it. Williams' building is really just an upscaled classic New England building and most of their campus does look like that. And the CMC one....that's what CMC looks like. Here's an image if you don't believe me, it's a very corporate school:

These fit exactly with their campuses. I'd love for your explanation as to how you conclude otherwise.
My apologies...I thought they were all at Amherst. Yes, I can appreciate those buildings in California, Florida, etc.
