I’m trying to stay anonymous. It’s one of Colby, Bates, Bowdoin.

But the insistence that there is widespread name recognition and understanding of their rankings is just, incorrect.
It's a small club. And of course, those in or adjacent to the club know the handshake, but the vast majority of the world does not care.
This is true. But there is a portion of the DCUM population that does care and is annoyed that they were never taught the handshake. To placate themselves, they insist that the club is overrated harumph!
Not every diss on SLAC is sour grapes.
+1. I think SLACs are great for the right kind of student but the DCUM insistence that they are the best at everything and have no shortcomings is just disingenuous.
They are small. People haven’t heard of them. It’s fine. It doesn’t really matter.
Not sure how you have this perception. Most DCUM lac forums spend half the time with parents urging the op reconsider and instead go to a university, trashing the college, and then somehow bringing up athletics and how boys will never relate to the rest of their class, and Yadayada. Being an lac parent is so tiring here.

She’ll be much happier in life if she just chooses to ignore the race for prestige. The only people who care are the others in that race. Most of us are happy to be supportive and kind, and we don’t care where you’re going to college. Just yay for you!

Put you on better footing for top law, medical, grad schools than then ivies and state flagship not in same universe. Others will disagree. I hope they do. I know 1/3 of the kids at my T3 law school went to SLACs.
LACs are the cheat code for grad school because the kids have to go to grad school to be employable. Art history, gender studies, anthro, etc. just doesn't cut it in the real world.
