The same emotional maturity. My 3rd grader has some 5th graders on her team. They all have cell phones. We aren't there yet. Obviously this is just one example.

Are you deliberately obtuse? At younger ages skill is tied to how old you are. Being in the same grade is tied to emotional maturity. I'm sorry you cannot think about more than one thing at once.

If your September 2013 player is weak against March 2013 players in BY, they will be weak against them and players like them in SY
It's not a magic pill
Please at the younger ages it absolutely makes a difference. My DD's 3rd team scrimmaged the top team an age below and won. This "3rd" team at least half the team will go down to that age group once this change is finally made. Because at younger ages a few months makes a big difference.
When you're all playing kick and run the more physically mature has the advantage.

If your September 2013 player is weak against March 2013 players in BY, they will be weak against them and players like them in SY
It's not a magic pill
The other side of the coin is that March 2013 players have been playing 1/4 of the children in grades below them. Now they will play kids their own grade, whether or not they will be able to keep up will be up to the individual.
And what does School Grade have to do with the talent and skills required on the soccer field?
