Why would any Wapo exec reveal that to the public? How would random partisan reporters learn of the number? You guys are naive as hell. The 200k is obvious bullcrap.
Yes, because it's confirmed at 250k who have canceled.

To cancel your newspaper subscription because it didn't endorse the candidate you wanted them to. Good god, really? You'll cost someone their job, the decisions been made, you're not punishing Bezos by this, you're putting an end to the Post. This is just nonsense.
So cut off your nose to spite your face.
This is why it's such a close election. I'm pro choice anti MAGA and a female DEI and have no problem with Bezos' decision. I know who I am and what I believe in and I don't vote or get swayed by any paper who would endorse any candidate. This is what people mean by being waaaaay out of control to the Left.
Be sensible, logical and a bit less emotional but practical. Worry about yourself and look at the impact not what you deem to be right or wrong in the heat of the moment. This is punishing journalists on YOUR side. The Post is a hugely liberal left leaning paper. If you are a Dem why would you want it to go out?!
Bezos owns it but that's it. This is a big decision but he's not printing pro Maga stuff every day so get off your high horse and be sensible. It's a business decision at worse and a philosophical one at best, and if you can't understand that, you are a fool.
I don't know if you understand this story. The editorial board did want to endorse Harris and they wrote an endorsement but the owner refused to let them publish it. People don't subscribe to the post because they want to know bezos's opinions. They subscribe to the post because they respect the reporting and the editorial board that he has in place. If they're not going to get that, why should they read the paper?
All you lefties sound like a 5 year old having a temper tantrum. The Post endorsing a candidate or not endorsing a candidate has no effect on an election. Journalists, who are supposed to be objective and not be part of the story should keep their politics to themselves if they want to be thought of as such. But we all know the Post’s reporting is extraordinarily biased in favor of Dems which is why the employees and subscribers are losing their minds over this meaningless gesture bc they fear the Post might actually try to be objective.
The endorsement is done by the editorial board and appears on the opinion pages. It's like you've never actually read a newspaper, but you seem to have a lot of opinions about them.

You completely miss the reason why people are canceling. It’s not because the WaPo didn’t endorse Harris. It’s because the billionaire owner showed he’s willing to bias the papers editorial judgment to please Trump. That leads to a loss of trust in the paper.

Nope, WaPo has confirmed it and now it’s up to 250k.

And you know what the result will be from all the LWNJs cancelling their subscriptions?

And you know what the result will be from all the LWNJs cancelling their subscriptions? WaPo will likely have to terminate many of their journalists and other employees that keep the paper up and running.

When you cancel your subscription to the Post, you don’t punish Jeff Bezos. You punish the journalists who write such stories, including, ironically, the journalists who wrote and prepared to publish the very endorsement you’re so angry about. As one Post staffer told me, “The journalists who produce the Washington Post had no role in this decision, and yet they’re the only people who will be really hurt if you cancel your subscription.”
And if those journalists lose their jobs, what happens to them? The most clueless subscription-cancelers of all maintain that they’ll just get jobs elsewhere. Apparently there are still people out there who don’t know that the business model for journalism is currently in free fall, with only brand-name legacy organizations, like the Post and the New York Times, able to hold on by their fingernails while still providing in-depth reporting. Last year alone, 131 local newspapers shuttered, a loss that has fostered the increasing polarization of their communities. Even if you don’t feel sorry for middle-class people losing their jobs, this is a massive civic injury. Contributing to the death of journalism will not hurt Jeff Bezos; it will just make the United States a dumber, more dangerous place.

You got nothing v someone like him. He's got a F50 B2C, AWS B2B govt all wrapped up and the newspaper and grocery businesses. You really think he cares what we all think???!?
But I agree with his pragmatic approach. The difference between everyone and someone like him is that he uses his brain not heart to drive decisions. He's not always right but on this, it's logical, reasonable and from a business perspective to top it off, sensible. Not knowing the outcome of the election, staying neutral is what any sane business person would do. All of you complainers have no idea how to run a business.
If your newspaper business's top priority is sucking up to the President, and you don't have a newspaper business.

Anonymous wrote:If Bezos is willing to insert himself into the editorial board's decisions about endorsements, why wouldn't he kill other stories or endorsements that might displease Trump? This could be just the tip of the iceberg. That's why we canceled our subscription. As a nation, we need to examine the power of our new oligarchs in every political sphere, including the Fourth Estate.

And you don't need to agree with reporting to respect it by the way. You could read a quality conservative publication like the economist or something and respect the reporting without necessarily agreeing with all of it.
Economiat is market capitalist not conservative.
